There's one more factor I mentioned in the Fridge page the video maker didn't mention: Sonic can CHOOSE not to go fast if he wants less-capable people to catch up with him in the name of fun.

I don't get why it's so difficult for people to accept that Sonic runs faster than the speed of sound because Sega says so.

Also, I still don't believe the Just Toying with Them theory. Sonic actually loses/ties some of his races/fights, and it's made clear that Sonic isn't the type who likes losing.

Also, all of Sonic's friends really are close to being as fast as Sonic himself. If it were false, it would call into question why Tails could keep up with Sonic in the when they first met (as described in the manual).

I love it when you use math, science, and logic to make a character deeper than was intended.

There's slow characters in the series. Not many, but they exist. Gamma, Omega, Chaos Gamma, Chaos Zero(he's not very fast in most of his other forms either), a lot of Gamma's brothers, as I said before, Big. Omega can be argued due to his appearance in Shadow the Hedgehog where he's the same speed as everyone else. The rest, not so much. Eggman is not very fast in his mech, nor is Tails, of course.

I'm not sure where that idea came from. Some of his friends, sure. All? Either you forgot a lot of characters or are exaggerating heavily.

You played Sonic Heroes? Big can run loops there. Perhaps it's Gameplay and Story Segregation, but most of Sonic's friends try to keep up with him, even if they can't completely.

Actually, in general, Amy's team is overall slower. It's what you said, simply for the sake of balance. Big is definitely not naturally that fast or is supposed to be. It's similar to the "Moveset Clone" thing in Shadow The Hedgehog for most of your partners.

Shadow can keep up and Blaze can come close. Tails and Knuckles could probably keep up in their early days but not anymore. Everyone else? Nope.

Omega in his latest playable appearance is often noted as one of the fastest characters in the game.

It's totes canon, otherwise Sonic wouldn't even want to try the go-karts in Drift, the convertibles in SEGA Allstars, and the airboards in Riders.

Also he deliberately and hilariously underclocks his running speeds at the Olympics with Mario. 100m Sprints are nothing to a Hedgehog who can sidestep at over 316m/s.

Those two seem to do a pretty good job of keeping up with him in Boom, even after Knuckles started hitting the juice.

Then again that's an alternate continuity and all.

Scykoh completed Radical Train's Mach Speed section in one try. One try. He also only died once to the regular section and that was at the beginning.

I think pokecapn's infamous LP painted a very skewed picture of how Sonic 06 actually plays. I mean, yeah, the game was pretty damn glitchy and buggy at times, but it played well enough that it wasn't an impossible task to get through most of the game without dying several times.^note Personally, outside of The End of the World, I only really had trouble with Sonic's Mach Speed sections, some parts of Aquatic Base, and Silver's Dusty Desert Ruins stage.

To be fair though, pokecapn's stipulations (playing the entire game without resting) probably made the game much harder than it was supposed to be (and probably magnified its problems at the same time).
