Final Fantasy XIV: Don't use the same job to do both High Level Dungeon Roulette and Low Level DR one right after the other. Because if you do, you will frequently find yourself cursing your muscle memory in the latter.

Octodad 2 Dadliest Catch:

Bananas are the fruit of Satan.

It's sort of like a racing game. You don't want to go as fast as possible, you want to maintain control and not crash horribly.

Little clicks for little steps, hold the button to gain elevation. And just use the mousewheel for raising and lowering your arm. Lets you move around at the same time unlike the RMB.

But that's a story for another time.

Most RPG games: Make use of the stat-boosting items that you earn/find, as they can really can realy help in a pinch. Also, keep an eye on your stats as well. They're a quick way to strengthen up, rather than just resorting to grinding. (I REALLY had to learn that the hard way..)

Hand Of Fate;

Keep an eye on whatever special abilities your artifacts and weapons grant you. And then remember to use them.

You'd think I'd have figured that out the first three times I died only to slap my face when I remembered I totally could've restored my health mid-fight.

Hanran Gunki:

  • Do not let your seize point empty. Leave someone defending the place because the enemy AI is smart enough to ignore units in attacking range and go straight to capture the seize point, giving an instant game over.
  • Always check attacking range manually in case that the screen does not scroll well.
  • The player character will betray the party in chapter 8. Level him excessively and the fight will be borderline unwinnable unless you got lucky with super or critical hits.

Pokémon:

Only training your starter may seem like a viable strategy, but if it gets knocked out, you'll have to rely on under-levelled HM slaves to win the fight.

Mortal Kombat (2011)

  • You thought that just because you were good at Injustice you'd be good at Netherrealm's previous game? Think again. It's subtly slower to the point that you'll need to find your rhythm again, and the AI is way more punishing.
  • Boss armour is a bitch. Strategies that roll right over regular opponents will just let Kintaro tear you apart for half your health.

Smash:

  • Game & Watch's failtopus cannot fly. In other words, it will not prevent you from falling off the screen.
  • Bowser's spin is lulzy as shit, but does not get priority over a spike, at least Captain Falcon's.
  • The Falcon Kick can be stopped cold by ROB's spinning top.
  • The secret to not killing yourself as Charizard is, Don't use Flare Blitz unless you know it's going to hit.
  • Ness's PK Thunder isn't all that easy to steer; don't try to launch him with it to get back up to the stage except as a last resort.
    • PK Fire -> up throw -> PK Thunder or Spark.
  • If you're at the stage edge, throw them off, not up. Finally started doing this.

This shitty TMNT GBA game I picked up for a dollar:

  • You'd think Donnie, having a bo staff, would be good at crowds. He isn't.
  • This game gives you nothing, and you can still die easily on... Easy.
  • Apparently Donatello loves sticking lasers on vehicles. Try each button when you get to vehicle stages.

Tak and the Power of Juju:

  • They got the damn sheep count wrong for some levels. Not only do I not know whether there's any reward for getting them all, it might not even be possible.

Team Fortress 2:

  • You will encounter some folks who are far better.
  • Scouts are the demon spawn of evil, doubly so as a sniper and spy.
  • An engineer thinks he can knock sappers apart all day? Keep sappin' the poor sap's sentry until it goes boom. Just hope he doesn't get wise after the first time or two.
  • If you find yourself near allies and you suspect the enemies saw you, get to cover and change your disguise.
  • Keep your eye open on what weapon you have in disguise. The last thing you want is for you to carry a phlogistinator while disguised as an engineer.

FTL

  • If you get a Vulcan Cannon or suchlike in the early game, sell it, rather than directing all of your scrap towards getting enough reactor space and power to use the damn thing. It will cripple you. Relatedly, if you have enough power for a really good weapon and only that weapon, unless it's a Vulcan Cannon, wait until you can get backup weapons online before using it. Doubly so if it's a Glaive Beam.

Persona Q: If a character with a ranged weapon has an ability that triggers follow-up attacks (Death Chaser, Judgement Sword, possibly others I'm not remembering), the follow-up attack is still considered to be melee, with the resulting damage penalty from the back row.

Battlefield 3:

  • Take a close look at what key you're hitting when in aircraft, bailing out when you intend to reload impresses no one.
  • Just because the server allows all weapons to be used doesn't mean the admin doesn't have some other asinine rule set.
  • Public teammates often have a nasty habit of driving off into combat in a jeep with no gunner.
  • Said teammates love driving up to the barrel of the other team's tanks or IFVs.
  • The odds of a public teammate flying the helicopter you're the gunner/passenger in into terrain is 50/50 at best.

Super Robot Wars Z

When you want to shoot down an enemy boss who will retreat when their HP reaches a certain value, Make sure that you only spend SP on reducing their Will (which affects the damage they receive) after you get them near the threshold. If you reduce it down at the start, the amount they recover from being attacked will cause them to surive your ostensible killing blow with a tiny smidgeon of HP left.

Gadlight Meonsam, I hate you so much.

Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters

  • You can't attack a ghost that's in a wall.
  • When you access the computer, you need to hold down the L+R buttons to access the requests menu.
  • Blocking traps only work for as much damage as they can take. When blocked, a ghost will just stop there and attack it.
  • When the SCREAM indicator turns blue, chances are they'll go straight for an electric outlet or the like.
  • No, really. You can't attack a ghost in a wall.
  • TP isn't just for training, it's also used to teach the main character the abilities of his allies.
  • Yes, even guitar music or an exorcism bell can damage furniture if there's no ghost to hit.
  • It's unfair that the reverse doesn't apply. But you can't attack a ghost in a wall.

  • Fourside Department Store WILL make you its bitch even if you have a decent amount of healing items.

  • Moonside is...weird. Also, pay attention to who you talk to here and avoid as many enemies as you can.

  • The Clumsy Robot is more threatening than it looks. Luckily, the bologna sandwich it eats doesn't do anything.

  • Don't be surprised if Jeff falls unconscious the first few times. But it's still annoying as FUCK when it happens after the 10,000th time.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

  • To make a Potion, you use Herbs and Blue Mushrooms. Not Honey. Stop packing 10 Honeys and no Blue Mushrooms.
  • During the Harvest Tour missions, large monsters actually do show up... regardless of whether you've fought them or not.
    • In addition, should two monsters cross paths they will both go territorial on yo' ass. Regardless of whether either of them are mentioned in the quest briefing.
    • Kecha Wacha looks incredibly freaky.
  • The Great Sword charge swing has super armor. This does not excuse getting hit.
  • Velocidrome looks like the Great Jaggi. He is a Bird Wyvern, like the Great Jaggi. He recycles animations from the Great Jaggi. He is not the Great Jaggi, and has entirely different attacks.
  • Unless you have a skill that speeds up your sharpening time, please go to another area to use Whetstones instead of doing it in the same room as the monster you're fighting.
  • Quests that can be played online balance monster health for an online group. They are not as speedy to clear as a solo quest. (At least I think this is the case.)
