Hm, I wonder how long this thread will last before it's abandoned...
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Based on Sat AM, with writers who actually know what the hell they're doing and don't lose the humor in the process. Darker and Edgier can be done right.
If said writers are not available, don't even try. Just make it lighthearted and fun.
Good, now I don't have to worry about forgetting a promise.
I'm... a little out of touch with the Sonic games. By which I mean I haven't played them since Heroes. So I'm not really in much of a position to comment. But I'll start on what I've heard.
Frankly, Colors seems to have been something of a true breakthrough for the series, while Unleashed, though flawed, is generally seen as a turning point. With these positive signs from a fandom long since dismissed as hopelessly broken, how can this trend of success be continued, and, just as importantly, how can we avoid sinking into the abyss again?
That'll open it. I'll leave it to more recent eyes; the vets and retirees can come in with their grouchings and grumblings later. Reminder; this is a kids series ultimately, just one that, like many great series, one that is greatly enjoyed by adults. So, you need to appeal to both audiences.
EDIT: Also, ^good advice. Don't go for heavier storylines unless you're up to them. But seriously, just reading the trope page and knowing that the Happy Tree Friends team was involved, Sonic Colors just shows a different level of expertise; one that indicates that Sonic should aim for "light-hearted" rather than "serious" on the spectrum.
Further EDIT: This is about a blue hedgehog after all.

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books. My idea about Knuckles comforting Rouge.
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DFirst of all, like Colors did, I think, let Eggman be the final boss, don't get him overshadowed by some cosmic ultrapower (which the Sonic world has thousands of, apparently). In fact, it'd sound kinda awesome to have him actually TAME some cosmic beast instead of losing against it. Of course, I'm missing Adventure 2 and Unleashed here, so I'm not sure whether it happens there or not.
Stargate SG-1 Let's Watch. Because my ZHP thing failed.2 was more Robotniks grandpappy creating a doomsday device, which Eggman, decades after said grandfathers death, discovered and, this being Eggman, thought he could use to dominate the planet. Unfortunately for him, the device was designed to kamikaze into Earth instead of using its obvious feature, a doom cannon capable of blasting continents. Eggmans plan to hold the sword of damocles over Earths head turned into an allied scramble to stop said sword from dropping on everyone.

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.Eggman actually had Dark Gaia under his control to some extent for most of the goal, even using it as a power source for his robots and Eggmanland. It was only when the beast was completely reassembled - right after the fight with the Dark Gaia-powered Egg Dragoon - did it fight back against the good doctor... and win.

Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Exactly, no Robotnik end boss awesomeness. I'd rather have him be a final boss than some original character.
I mean, everyone agrees with me when I say that Eggman showing actual world-domination competence is pretty cool, right?

Stargate SG-1 Let's Watch. Because my ZHP thing failed.Problem is that Sonic has Super Sonic. And Super Sonic is so powerful that Eggman doesn't really stand a chance against him on his own. Except for that one time he apparently did...
Your choices are; take out Super Sonic, which is a feature Sonic fans seem to love, or make Eggman such a badass that Sonic needs the edge. You could make Eggman a more formidable villain. I mean, the guy controlled a God. He built a doomsday station. The man screams Emperor Scientist, with a heaping of Badass Normal.
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books. Can't see why it can't be both, by the way. I'd love to see him find a way to actually counter Super Sonic.

Stargate SG-1 Let's Watch. Because my ZHP thing failed.I dunno. I only played the genesis games, anyway (I dont think they others are bad, thougt, because, well... I didnt played them.)
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."Creating a 2D revival of Sonic with physics similar to the Genesis trilogy.
It's been done. Your Mileage May Vary on whether or not it's been done well.
On Topic: Sonic Colors 2.

Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Well, I meant a 2D 16-bit sprite based revival that borrows from the Genesis trilogy.
And I thought Sonic 4 was a pretty good game.
Hmm. A game in the spirit of Sat AM is more in the Action Survivor sphere of games. And the emphasis on fast paced action tends to dampen any such attempt.
I'd advise SEGA to stick with what works for at least another few games, and then experiment again. But hell, with a good enough scriptwriter, anythings possible. But SEGA has to move towards new fanbases, not us crusties, so I wouldn't recommend a straight Sat AM remake. Rather, perhaps take the concepts, and go for something in the same vein.
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.Mecha/Metal Sonic?
Give Robotnik some sort of "power armor/suit" that puts him at about equal to Sonic?
Trick Knuckles again?
Abandon the very concept of Super Sonic?
Knuckles Chaotix 2: The Return of Mighty
Another slow day on Angel Island for the ever vigilante Knuckles the Echidna, defender of the Master Emerald. who is visited unexpectedly by Ray the flying squirrel, who seeks Knuckle's help. Their old Friend Mighty has been captured by Eggman and being used as collateral. Knuckles must give Eggman the Master Emerald peacefully so the Eggman can use the Master emerald to directly access the Chaos Emeralds without having to travel great lengths through the special zones. Knuckles Agrees to help, but not wanting him to go it alone, Ray also calls on the Chaotix detectives to help out an old ally.
The team attempt to assault Eggman Head on but two things occur: 1) They learn that Eggman's grand scheme is to finish building and activate an entire army of Metal Sonics and Metal Knuckleses, imbued with all the skills and abilities the Eggman has observed over the years, and powered by the Chao Emeralds. 2) They are stopped by Eggman's new top man, Mecha Mighty, Mighty the armadillo encased in a super suit. It's a race to try to track down and dismantle all of Eggman's bases and factories, destroy as many of these machines as they can before it's too late as well as defend the Master Emerald and try to find the Chaos Emeralds before Egggman does.
Eh? Eh?
The Blog The ArtThe Power Armour idea is interesting. I was more thinking the Batman route. Make Eggman a Badass Normal capable of out-thinking the blue blur... even when he goes yellow instead. Making Eggman a formidable fighter is one thing, but I think that subtracts from what Eggman is. He is, first and foremost, a thinker. He manipulates (the Knuckles thing) builds (mecha sonic, his inventions) and commands (his increasingly magnificent machine invasions) his way to power. I imagine Eggman could make a very good Chessmaster and Xanatos Gambit master in the right setting.
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books. The return of Super Tails and Hyper Knuckles.
And give Metal Sonic a chance to be awesome that doesn't involve him grafting a bunch of ridiculous spikes all over his body.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Hey, the spikier version of himself was very cool-looking. It's just a pity that he decided to turn right into Metal Storm/Overlord before actually fighting anyone in that state.
And I'd like something similar to Sonic Colors, but I don't think we should have Eggman just repeat his old plan. Maybe he's building a bunch of robot factories in the ocean/a jungle/the ice caps or something. The variety of worlds is definitely something that should come back from Colors, but perhaps switch up the powerups, or at least find a different source for them. Maybe in this one, Sonic's powerups come from him hijacking machines he finds in Eggman's complexes. Intead of a Green Wisp, a Hover Board. Instead of an Orange Wisp, a... well, rocket. Etc.
And It'd be nice if they gave Sonic the use of the Light Dash and Spin Dash again; outside of powerups, that is. Both are very cool moves. The Spin Dash could just be used in the same fashion that it's used in SA 1 and Colors (for 3D and 2D sections, respectively).
And give Eggman top billing again. It worked very well in Colors. Any cool Eldritch Abomination boss could be effectively replaced with a huge robot piloted by Eggman.
As for the Super Sonic factor: Eggman has proved that he can fight back against that form.
I have a message from another time...Drop every single character except for Knuckles and Start over from scratch...wait, I already said that on the crappy idea thread.
