Guess That Trope! If you aren't familar with anime, can you tell me what Nosebleed is about?

...No, it's not about nosebleeds in general.

I think it would be better to at least add a redirect, if not a rename. How about Japanese Nosebleed? It is already mentioned in the article, and will indicate that it is not just about nosebleeds in general.

Oh, and the Drag Me To Hell example seems to be bad.

I could have sworn we had this discussion a good half a year ago or so. I know it was decided to add some redirects, but I don't know if it was ever outright renamed.

Ahh, here it is.

"...at least add a redirect..." It has Ecchi Nosebleed, Ero Nosebleed, and Horny Nosebleed.

None of those redirects are being used. Besides, they are too vague.

What's too vague about Horny Nosebleed?

How is Ecchi, Ero, or Horny "too vague"? Do you want to make a redirect called I Am Having Dirty Thoughts About Someone And My Body Is Physically Responding With A Nosebleed or something like that?

chihuahua0 Since: Jul, 2010
#9: Jan 23rd 2011 at 6:53:47 PM

Actually, Horny Noseless isn't vauge. If only more people use it.

Japanese Nosebleed is much more vague (and much less accurate) than Horny Nosebleed.

The trope is working just fine. Add all the redirects you want, but there's nothing wrong with the current name or how it's working.

There is a reason why Horny Nosebleed isn't used by anyone. Because that isn't the actual term

This is how it is used. As a preexisting term. "Alice got a nosebleed" and "Bob just had a nosebleed".

[up][up][up]I support Nosebleed Of Arousal.

[up]But that doesn't give the context of this animé trope. In your example, Alice could have a nosebleed because she has high blood pressure, or got punched in the nose, or any other reason.

[up] And with your example, Boss Fight wouldn't give context that it's a Video Game Trope instead of a trope about fighting with your employer, or Shipping wouldn't give context that it's about pairings and not about water transportation.

We should probably rename them to Video Game Boss Fight and Relationshipping, and just expect thousands of tropers to drop their pre-existing terms, because these new terms are more convinient for us.

Alright if you guys want to rename it so much, lets start seeing misuse in the articles. I'm going over the entire article and here's what I see.

1. The Anime section makes up 75% of the entire page. EACH AND EVERY LAST ONE OF THE EXAMPLES IS CORRECT in that it describes how (or why) they happen and are for the sake of comedy. None of them are about nosebleeds inflicted by physical pain (which I don't think is or should be tropable since it's just a common body injury).

Add the Video games section onto it, and you get 80% of the article. All the Video Game examples are correct because of their association with anime and Japan in general.

The Webcomics section are correct since webcomic artists are usually savvy enough to know about the Nosebleed and will incorporate it into their comics for the sake of comedy.

It's only when you get to the Film, Live Action TV, Western Animation and Real Life (the last 10% of the article) that you can start to question whether it applies or not.

From where I stand, there's nothing wrong with the article name. It's working as intended.

^This is just the article itself though, correct? Are there any inconsistencies in the wicks?

Granted, I made a quick skim last night, and it appears to be used correctly, but if anyone taking this discussion more seriously than me wants to have a look and confirm that, that might be a nice idea.

This is one where I wish the article was originally started as Ecchi Nosebleed or something similar, so that Nosebleed would be free for a disambiguation page. However it looks like it's pretty entrenched as it stands now, so unless there is an issue with misuse it should probably stay.

I don't think any other type of nosebleed should even be tropable. Isn't that kinda like People Sit On Chairs? it's just so common and rarely of any actual importance.

There is the nosebleed that indicates a character is taking invisible internal damage and will probably die. Such as when the blue hands guys kill with a sonic weapon on Firefly or to indicate time travel damage on Lost.

If we don't have a trope for that, we should. EDIT: Can't find that trope. Will YKTTW it.

There's also Psychic Nosebleed.

So, yeah, more than one kind of tropeable nosebleed.

I know the Firefly is not the only place I've seen nosebleeds used to show internal injury. The character will put their fingers up to their nose. See blood on them. Then fall over. It's generally a disease or a sonic weapon or something else that doesn't show any other external signs of damage though.
