we're busy removing everything that made this site popular to start with. It was the off-beat humour in the pages, the odd and non-descriptive trope names, that drew people here, that generated interest. We are Wikipedia and we are no longer informal. Tvtropes is just another beige site in the sea of beige blandness.

Can we stop quibbling over generalities and get back to the specific subject at hand? This argument is getting extreme-ish (on both sides).

We don't seem to be able to get a consensus on this without a crowner.

So, anyone opposed to putting this to a crowner? Say the options are culling the "unfunny" ones, culling the ones that aren't relevant to the trope, and culling all of them.

Maybe add moving them to the index, but I'm really not a fan of that one. It just makes the index look ugly.

Is Fast Eddie's judgment not enough to settle this? Let this die already...

The first two options aren't feasible at all, because who gets to decide which are unfunny or irrelevant? As has already been said, trying to take separate votes for each stinger is insane, and multiple stingers could be proposed for a single page. Why should one random user's made up stinger take precedence over all others just because they got to the page first? I'd be happy enough to get rid of them entirely, but I can settle for quarantining them in Statler And Waldorf.

As has already been said, trying to take separate votes for each stinger is insane, and multiple stingers could be proposed for a single page.

That's not what anyone on this page suggested. The crowner options Black Humor suggested would cover changes that could affect the page as a whole and its stingers in broad strokes, and I think he suggested a fair method of coming to a solution.

Why should one random user's made up stinger take precedence over all others just because they got to the page first?

I wasn't aware that there even was a precedence over keeping anything on any pages just because it got there first. If someone adds a page quote, image, picture caption, or stinger to a page, anyone who comes along who has anything that might make for a better page quote, image, picture caption, or stinger is free to make a swap at any time; if such a change becomes a conflict between editors, we can take it to the forums and have tropers as a community decide what is best for the page, instead. Simple.

^No, I actually did suggest a crowner that listed each stinger so we could gauge which ones people liked and didn't.

Is Fast Eddie's judgment not enough to settle this? Let this die already..

Fast Eddie never said "I'm the admin, so we're doing it my way". He gave his opinion on the topic. We don't have to listen to him unless he forces us to, and Fast Eddie is generally nice enough not to force us to if it's not critical to the wiki.

To the rest of your post, what kind of weird strawman is that? The guy who suggested the crowner for every one individually was not only not me, he was on the other side of the argument. I figure at most we can just send people in this topic out to Wiki Magic the change using their own judgment.

EDIT: So, I'll repeat the question: crowner, yes or no?

If nobody answers me this time I'll just go ahead anyway.

I'm pretty sure Eddie didn't give his opinion with the expectation that we'd ignore it. Why are we still debating this? Can't we just delete them?

No, I saw that, but you and Cliche were the only ones that said anything; then we kinda got back off topic.

EDIT: ALSO, if anyone but Fast Eddie tries to pull another argument from Fast Eddie, I'm making the crowner anyway.

You were going to make the crowner anyway, weren't you? I don't see why you're threatening us with doing it because we're listening to the admin.

^^Not entirely true. Although, crowners are typically decided by some kind of majority. It's inherent to their design.

No, no, no, you aren't paying attention. Let me repeat: the "Remove only the unfunny ones" and "Remove only the ones that aren't relevant to the page they're on" options do not work, because how are you going to determine which ones qualify? The "crowner for each stinger" is essentially what you would have to do—that's why I brought it up. And you'd have to make a new call every time someone came up with their own new stinger for a page.

Edit: Very well, but an Appeal To Authority doesn't mean all that much in a community that decides matters as a democracy.
Umm, hello? This isn't a democracy. Fast Eddie is the admin. That really is kind of important.

Ignore me, complaining again about how no one is listening to Fast Eddie.
Yeah... I'm still arguing back, but I already consider the matter settled and the crowner meaningless.

^ Yeah, I consider the crowner a bit meaningless too. Still, it depends on what the results of the crowner are.

Also, a question about the Move them all to the Statler And Waldorf index option on the crowner? Would they be deleted from the ends of page if this option wins, or would they be left on pages and a copy of each on the index?
