Back in the good old days Spongebob was just a naive and quirky guy, nowadays I wonder why he isn't incarcerated/institutionalized.
"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."Back then One-shot characters were a lot less frequent. Now, they are more common than Sandy, gary, or even plankton.
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DI agree. It get's to the point were I just feel sorry for poor Squidward, who should be reasonably annoyed, and yet he is portrayed as the the bad guy in every situation, compared to the older episodes when Squidward was a Jerkass who got what was coming to him.
YOU! OBEY THE FIST!Patrick is also stupider now these days to the point where it's hard to believe he's still alive.
Some folks on the Internet think they're a special GIFT to the world, and others aren't. In this perspective, they're kind of right. We never see Sponge Bob's parents after season five.
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DHis stupidity is Flanderized so much he's not even the same character anymore...
YOU! OBEY THE FIST!I have'nt seen much Menes from post movie...
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DYes. Also back in the day the soundtrack was better and more diverse.
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2DLet's not get started on Mr. Krabs...
Some folks on the Internet think they're a special GIFT to the world, and others aren't. In this perspective, they're kind of right. He has become nicer in very recent ones like "The Masterpiece"
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2Dthat's good..... I distinctly remember him torturing Plankton to the onset of suicide in One Coarse Meal...
YOU! OBEY THE FIST!The second and third seasons of the show were the golden years to me. The first season was good, but not nearly as funny; and of course everything after the movie plain sucks.
I'd have to say the best season for me was the third season, with the seventh season being the worst.

Some folks on the Internet think they're a special GIFT to the world, and others aren't. In this perspective, they're kind of right. One Coarse Meal is the worst episode of the show in my opinion, other episodes I dislike are Plankton's Regular and Boating Buddies.
Some folks on the Internet think they're a special GIFT to the world, and others aren't. In this perspective, they're kind of right.Every episode of Sponge Bob after the movie of '04 sucked. Letme name one episode that sucked. The one where Sponge Bob and Patrick fought over a krabby patty toy. Really?
Woah another bump. Oh well it's a decent topic.
I think the problem is similar to Family Guy and The Simpsons they ultimately sacrificed most of the sentimentality and likeable elements of the show and cast for Rule of Funny, and much like the former shows, what the current writers consider funny can be rather demented or mean spirited. It's even taking similar character achetypes (eg. the Too Dumb to Live Idiot Houdini, the Jerkass Karma Houdini and the sociopathically tortured Butt-Monkey). It does go back to the original mythos of the show every now and then but again, when it makes for a good gag.
It's annoying how so many comical cartoons place everything humorous as Rule of Funny with no consistancy rather than some character/story based humor. So many Sadist Shows with a very crude and painful sense of humor on air these days, especially for kid audiences.

I've been a long time Spongebob fan and I can truly say the show really has gone downhill over the past couple of years. Personally, I didn't mind some of the post movie episodes, though after about season 4, it became hit or miss. Every once in a blue moon, there will be a good episode. There are episodes that I will turn off right away because they were awful. What the series needs to do is go back to its roots and bring back the clever humor of the old episodes.
Man this thread has lost the Phoenix Wright-style arguments already.....
@Miru - Well, there is the Handsome Squidward meme. And that close-up of SpongeBob in "WhoBob WhatPants"...
But yeah, SpongeBob has completely been destroyed by Nickelodeon. And now they're making a second movie...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yAjWvAqyMHas "The Thing" from Season 4 been brought up yet? An exercise in unfunny sadism if there was ever one in this series. I can't mine any entertainment from that and it baffles me how they actually dedicated a whole episode of defense-less Squidward torture.
I thought "Squidwood" was Squidward torture at it's most mean spirited, basically the entire of Bikini Bottom blasting with great enthusiasm how much they hate Squidward's guts over a wooden puppet. Made worse by the fact Squidward wasn't even being much of a Jerkass to provoke such hatred in that episode. Similar to "Plankton's Regular" I think that episode overestimated how much of a kick audiences can get from a Designated Monkey.

Way back on the first page, but I figured this would be an interesting tidbit.
"Didnt anyone else beat its rating before??? (ex: Avatar/Invader Zim re runs???)"
Fairly Odd Parents did for a short while believe it or not.
My real problem with the new spongebob is the general lack of natural humor.
I still crack up every time I see the Hall Monitor episode, the Chocolate one, or even the pilot with the anchovies. They were funny because they didn't need to throw in stupid humor to make it funny. The actions spoke for themselves. It was hilarious because it didn't point out when there was a joke.
ADHD? Bitch please, those are battle instincts!Well, the Spongebob's early seasons had really clever, and witty writing to back them. It was pure funny, no doubt about it.
The new Spongebob is sort of dumbed down fun, if you ask me. Which is an odd choice of words, considering how twisted they can get.

Yeah, that's clearly more of a special than a movie, since there's not one continuous overlooking plot. If there were some Patchy scenes showing him telling all the stories, then it could be classified as a TV Movie at least.
