Cool! I'm glad he is doing Back To The Future so soon. I only paid in January. It's awesome he is doing it on the same day Marty went to 2015.
I wonder why he chose Robotech version of Macross over the original one. I assume it was a specific request.
Isn't Robotech much different than Macross? More than just being dub?
Either that or he's doing it because he watched Robotech as a kid.
All us 80's kids watched Robotech, it was our Gateway Series. Then anime exploded in The '90s with Akira...
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48Nah, anime exploded in the 90s with Dragon Ball Z along with the rest of the toonami block. Akira was pretty much the artsy film that everyone talked about but hadn't seen, till its rerelease in umm 2002?

My first anime was Saber Rider And The Star Sheriffs. I remember it came on right after Sailor Moon on YTV. I'd often come early and ended up catching the end of Sailor Moon, that's what eventually convinced me to watch a whole episode of it. If you haven't heard of Saber Rider I suggest listening to the intro song, which is great.
It's Three unrelated shows smashed together to make a Trilogy.
No Akira was first released in the States back in The '90s (it was even on the cover of either Newsweek or Time, discussing the anime boom), I know because I rented in back then. And my friend had the Manga. The Oughts gave us another dub.
Heck, Project A-ko has an injoke: the characters are watching a movie and the character on the screen screams "It's the colonel!" only for Colonel Sanders to appear. It's funny if you've watched Akira.
On This Very Wiki it's mentioned the Robotech got people into anime. It was very underground, with a few movies put in syndication to fill programming blocks. Bandai sold a lot of Robotech toys until the interest died down and the Transformers juggernat swept them from the market (Transfomers was Deader Than Disco on toy shelves, but the fans kept the flame up, btw).
Most anime clubs used Akira and later Ghost In The Shell (to bring this back to Sf Debris) as a draw.
In New Mexico, Robotech was carried on a UHF channel that had a weak signal. It was mostly syndication, think the movie UHF only played straight. It had failing ratings due to it's off beat programming (a mix of This Is Going to Be Huge shows and public access), re-runs and weak signal. Any good shows (like RoboTech) didn't stand a chance. Alas, midway in Robotech's run the station became a "Christian" station and Robotech left the NM airwaves...
In other markets, I think the Transfomers/GI JOE juggernaut beat them out on the mindshare. Many voice actors cut their teeth on shows like Robotech, laying the foundation for the anime boom of The '90s.
Oh Goddess... REBA WEST.... her voice is a...
...how can I put this....
...Brown Note, to some anime fans.
There are otakus who will go batsh_t insane at the sound of Reba West's voice. I mean people with kids who graduated college and highschool will Hulk Out at the sound of Minmei's singing...
And a lot of people will be all No-Sell "This is it?"
Ah poor Sf Debris....

All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48And I give you the one and only Reba West as Lynn Minmay:
So far all his anime reviews, TNG's The Chase, Atlantis's Letters from Pegasus, the Fringe episode he did, and the Dragon Age lets play are back up. As are the various youtube reviews he posted last month. There's a handy button on the site's homepage that links to the linked thread.
