No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

From what I remember of the audio drama (it was a while ago that I listened to it) it was exposition from a time travelling Perpetual who was hiding during the Age of Strife and was having trouble moving on because the war against the Men of Iron had left reality around the planet he was on heavily damaged.
Said Perpetual is Oll Persson aka the lone soldier who stands up to Horus in the final battle of the Heresy, whose death at Horus' hands convinces the Emperor that Horus was beyond redemption.
Disgusted, but not surprisedOkay, so someone without a confirmed ulterior motive then. Fair enough.
Plus it wasn't in an actual conversation from what I remember, it was scene setting for the listener.
If AI then inevitable reality breaking rebellion is not a line I'm sure is logically sound.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I guess the mindset is "The last time we had AI, it nearly wiped us out and destroyed the galaxy. Do we really want to take a chance with it again?"
Though the Imperium nowadays doesn't bother with logic and just hates AI dogmatically.
Disgusted, but not surprisedEven though they use AI machine spirits in most of their vehicles.
The thing is there's a difference between machine spirits (simple subroutines and programs that will never gain sapience) and Artificial Intelligence, which have the potential to gain sapience and have previously attempted to destroy humanity.
Except in Knights and Titans.
Because their Machine Spirits are super advanced and are essentially "dumb" AI
They are also meant to be merged with a human mind with little independence of their own.
In other news: I got my Age of Sigmar starter box in, and Immediately converted the second Bloodsecrator I have into a Dark Apostle with a Plasma Pistol for my World Eaters army. So now I have two Dark Apostles. One based on Kranon that my friend converted and this one. I think the former will be used for a Marine army and the latter for Cultist-spam.
I'm planning on doing some Greenstuff work to cover up his the fact that his ass and the back of his legs are unarmored though. Maybe do a skin cloak, because that's going to be a recurring thing in my army, skin cloaksnote

Funnily enough, the one scene that I remembered from the Helsreach book was the little scene where Grimaldus talks to one of the Guardsmen who apparently was also pulled out from the rubble of their last stand... and said guardsman politely says that, nope, they'll keep out of the way and shut up so that Grimaldus' new legend won't get bogged down in little niggling details.
For today's 2nd Edition Thursday: Daemon Gifts.
Daemon Gifts were minor abilities that characters from Chaos Cult armies, and Huron Blackheart, were able to perchance. Daemon Gifts were randomly determined at the beginning of each game by rolling a D10 on the following table:
1 – Cannot Be Possessed: The character was under the protection of the Chaos Gods and could not be possessed by a daemon. The Daemonic Attack Warp Cardnote had no effect on the character.
2 – Weapon Jinx: The character could use this power whenever an enemy model used a ranged attack on him. The Chaos player rolled a D6 with the result of a 6 meaning that the enemy’s weapon had jammed and could not be used again until the jam was cleared (by spending another shooting phase without firing).
3 – Fearful Aura: The character caused Fear.
4 – Freeze Time: The character could freeze time while he carried on moving. To other models it appeared tha the character was able to move incredibly quickly. The character could add D6” to his basic move, which could be doubled for running and charging as normal.
5 – Sense Presence: The character could sense the presence of enemy models within 12”. Enemy models cannot hid while within 12” of the character and any hidden models within 12” of the model at any time are automatically detected.
6 – Daemon Shot: The ranged attacks of the character were guided by the powers of Chaos. When making a shooting attack, the character always hit on a 2+ with no To Hit modifiers ever applying to his shot.
7 – Walk Through Walls: The character could make a small rent in the fabric of reality that allowed him to walk through solid objects as if they weren’t there. The character could move through walls and other obstacles less than 1” thick without penalty whenever he moved. The character could use the ability to drop through a flaw but would take falling damage with a Strength equal to half the distance fallen.
8 – Mirror Image: The character could use this ability to create a mirror image of himself that so confused his foe that he could leave close combat with no penalty.
9 – Bang-Flash!: The character could produce a small ball of warp energy that he could throw to cause a blinding flash. The character could use the ability to make an attack just like a Photon Flash Flare.
10 – Daemonic Protection: The character was protected from harm by the Chaos Gods and has a Daemonic Aura. This gave the model a 4+ unmodifiable save against any non-psychic attack. Psychic attacks and attacks from Force Weapons totally ignored the Daemonic Aura save.
Why do the Thousand Sons have some of the best models. The Thousand Sons Praetor that went on pre-order on Forge World today is another brilliant looking one. I wish I had the money for a Heresy era Sons army
Because Tzeentch is more concerned with quality than quantity.
... And that's called jazz! For those who don't know, the next few codexes have been announced, we're getting stuck up knife eared bastards (Eldar) space bugs of death (Nids) and the bulwark of humanity, the Imperial Guard!
advancing the front into TV TropesNow, is that Craftworld Eldar, Dark Eldar, Harlequins or Ynnari?
Craftworld. Hopefully the Nids will show the Guard how you do a proper Zerg Rush
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I am assuming that the newest set of Codecii will be set during the Indomitus Crusade?
From what I've read, the Space Marine codex treats the Crusade as being still in full swing — complete with Sicarius getting lost in the warp — whereas Dark Imperium shows its closing stages (and Sicarius back) and the Plague Wars. It would be nice to see what the heck everyone else has been up to after the galaxy got cut in half by the warp.
"Why do the Thousand Sons have some of the best models"
because finally GW is realizing the superiority of Thousand sons over the FUCKING FURRIES!
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"furries?!
New theme music also a boxLeman Russ Band of Wolfshaggers.
"You can reply to this Message!"God, that meme got old quick.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.
Was the speaker providing this information the Emperor, or someone else? Because if it was the Emperor, well, we already have evidence that he's willing to do virtually anything, including lying through his perfect teeth, in order to achieve his goals; look at "the Imperial Truth", for example, which was of course a complete copper-bottomed lie because he mistakenly thought that was the most effective way to squeeze the Chaos Gods out of the market.
If it was flashbacks from John Grammaticus or someone, yeah, that'd be a bit more conclusive, in that it seems unlikely the Emperor would run around tracking down every last Perpetual active at the time in order to edit their memories to fit the party line. (I mean, don't get me wrong, he's shown himself perfectly willing to tamper with memories to serve his ends - just ask Zahariel of the Dark Angels - but chasing individuals across the galaxy for centuries wouldn't really help his overall plan.)
