You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!Iron Maiden - Wasted Years
Somewhere in Time was my first Iron Maiden album (got the cassette for free from a neighbor when I was a kid), and it's still my favorite over ten years later. Just a fantastic work from them, and they actually manage to make synths work in their favor.
Boom Blast and Ruin, by Biffy Clyro.
Those guys rock.
Razor - Last Rites
Funny how Custom Killing has never been reissued since its original vinyl release. It's not even a bad album, I dare say it's actually really damn good, though I have a higher tolerance for prog-ish music than some.
@ Mr Lavisher Moot: Underrated album, I'd say- oh, people think it's good, but it still never gets nearly as much radio play or name recognition as, say, Led Zeppelin IV / Four Symbols or their first two. Or even Houses of the Holy or Physical Graffiti, for that matter. Which are all great, btw.
Sting - "Hounds Of Winter" (It's weird- Mercury Falling often elicits mixed or even negative reviews, but it's my favorite of his solo albums. I think it's the one that works best as an actual album- only The Soul Cages works as well, IMO. This is a great, melancholy song, with a subdued rhythm that slowly builds, some great keyboard and guitar textures and a really nice set of guitar leads near the end. Also, the organ coda at the tail end of the piece is a nice touch, too... And Sting's vocals are very effective at conveying the downcast feel- he even howls, and it works! Good stuff. )
If at first ya don't succeed, try a bit more, then give up or cheat... ;) -Myself Nothing can stop me now! -Piggy by Nine Inch NailsRed Hot Chili Peppers - "My Lovely Man" (One of the maybe 6 or 7 tunes on Blood Sugar Sex Magik- not including b-sides, of course- to deserve the Funk Metal tag... Which is odd, considering it's an elegy of sorts for Hillel Slovak. This one's got a great bassline, as usual, and Chad keeps the beat very much in the pocket. It assaults you right off the bat with a great Epic Riff, very Hedrix-esque, and there are a variety of guitar textures at work here, hard riffs, funky scratching and some lower-key soloing at various points. There's also a great coda where everything winds down in a great way- clearly, they've mastered dynamics. A fitting tribute to a talented guy who partied hard- perhaps a little too hard... Beautiful.)

(Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)" (Gotta love 70s Heavy Metal / Hard Rock songs about aliens... Actually, those are kinda unusual, now that I think about it. This one's got a damn nice riff, some excellent soloing and the usual solid, throbbing beat. The lyrics offer an interesting take on the subject, too... Solid Proto-Metal. )
