This is the thread for discussion of The Order of the Stick plot, characters, etc. We have a separate thread for discussing game rules and mechanics. Excessive rules discussions here may be thumped as off-topic.

I was going to say it could be a matter of relativity- with different adventures being P Cs to themselves and the others being NP Cs to them. But then I remember that Crystal was all all "yeah it's great picking a fight with P Cs." so I'm not sure what seperates them.
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"It could also be that these two aren't actually adventurers. They're a cleric and her bodyguard on a holy pilgrimage. They aren't going to be dropping by to slay some goblin dens and wrestle random bugbears any time soon.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Medium Awareness. There's no other explanation that doesn't go back to that concept. There are metaphysical qualities to "PC-ness" in this universe that only make sense in terms of an external context that the characters are aware of.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"IIRC Tarquin also figured out that Elan was a PC and was very proud of him for it.
Everyone but the party.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Altho, Belkar may be using the term derisively rather them actually being NPCs by the settings meta-rules.
I think it's just medium awareness. there's nothing special about adventurers but the main characters are special.
I'm thinking more "it's Belkar". I mean, humility is not exactly his best-known trait, unless you're talking about traits that are absent.
But Medium Awareness works, too.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpThey've been a few other references to the main characters as PCs, so it's not just a Belkar thing. It probably is just a Medium Awareness thing.
Well, I'm not one to call strips filler, but that was basically just characters telling each other things we already know, plus a joke at the end.
Let's get this show on the road!
Name of the comic will be invoked when they stab the little bloodsucker, and the dwarf vampire also of course.
"Show us the Galaxy Warp."I wonder, was that punchline a deliberate shout-out?
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableHey, you know what they say: House cats were once worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.
Hey, what's your avatar from? It looks familiar.
A bit late for this particular question but: how does every Gnome settlement have to be named Tinker Town?
I mean, is it just a pervasive stock name?
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"What other tinker town is there?

You must agree, my plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity! My Tumblrx3 It started as a derisive nickname given by the other races because yay, Fantastic Racism, and the gnomes decide to just roll with it

New Comic. Seems like V is getting suspicious of Durkula and Roy's having some doubts, that's good to know.
I love the "it seems you are of two guts about this" line.

I like that Roy just barely caught up to where he was before he died.
XP is hard to come by at higher levels. People say Resurrection means that there are no consequences for dying, but when you're level 16 or somewhere about, losing an entire character level is a pretty significant consequence. Roy may actually be underlevelled for the party's CR now.

I'm kinda curious what you mean by that, because it's the standard bashing melee types in favor of magic users, we've certainly seen the trouble with that and how throwing magic at things isn't the best way to resolve all problems.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |In D&D 3.x, warrior types become really weak at higher levels thanks to the Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards problem. Sure, you can dish out 100 damage per round, but the wizard can alter reality to suit their whim. Your best use at that point is as a wall of hit points that the casters hide behind so they can solve all the party's problems. Sure, having a few more of those hit points is nice, but it won't mean the difference between life and death the way, for example, a wizard having an extra 9th level spell slot would.
Remember Roy's confrontation with Xykon atop the zombie dragon? Xykon made it clear that he could wreck Roy at any point, but held on (and soaked a fair bit of damage) in the hopes of persuading him to give up and go home. But a guy swinging a sharp stick can't compete with a guy who can fly and shoot meteors from his fingers.

NPCs can have PC classes and Character Levels.
