- Alternative Character Interpretation: At various points in the series you're going to be looking at Oji as anything from a god of ROCK unjustly trapped in a fleshy cubicle prison to a lovable putz to a philandering asshole who refuses to take his heads out of the clouds.
- Crosses the Line Twice: Watanabe's death by accidentally Flipping the Bird at a curse spouting Scary Black Man. Which is made accidentally sillier by the original version's delivery.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The flashback scene with Watanabe had him pass and get pincered by a lobster in a restaurant called... 'DIO LOBSTER'. This didn't raise a stinker when the show aired, seeing that JoJo was just a Cult Classic back then (and only had an OVA of the third part), but in the modern days after JoJo became more mainstream... the floodgate of JoJo/DIO memes open.
- Memetic Mutation: Worst black guy in a Japanese dub ever. See Narm below.
- Narm: In the original Japanese audio, the scene where a Scary Black Man beat the crap out of Watanabe got seriously ruined with the flat delivery of the English VA despite having fluent English and tons of Cluster F-Bomb, not to mention that he sounded less like a Scary Black Man and more like a white guy from Joisey trying to record his lines without waking his parents in the next room. This is thankfully fixed in the dub by giving the role to Beau Billingslea, who was already dubbing Oji, with hams aplenty in a way that makes Samuel L. Jackson proud.
- Signature Scene: The Scary Black Man with the funny voice killing Watanabe.
- Watch It for the Meme: Watanabe's death is by far the biggest thing people know about the anime.
- Woolseyism: Watanabe's death was caused by him acidentally flipping off some muscular dude. In the original Japanese, he couldn't explain the misunderstanding because of language barriers. In the English dub, it's because he didn't realize he was accidentally insulting the guy.
