- Anvilicious: The story's message regarding the mistreatment of marginalized groups in the name of science is about as subtle as the powers themselves, with Art straight-up telling Robin and the audience that the system is apathetic towards people like her.
- Narm: Intended to be deep but coming across condescending, multiple tired and cliched New Orleans references and phrases are used to trite effect. From Joseph Gordon Levitt rocking the Saints jersey the entire movie, to talking about "the people of New Orleans," it's a Hollywood-style pat on the shoulder that could cause a tad bit of cringing on the part of some locals/natives.
- Nightmare Fuel: Almost all of the Body Horror resulting from Power, with some memorable moments including:
- Newt's death as a result of his pyrokinetic powers going haywire, which causes him to explode, destroying most of the projects he lives in. And even before he uses his powers for the last time, we can see that he is Covered in Scars as a result of his addiction.
- Candy's drawn-out death as she loses control of her ice powers. All she can do is scream and cry for help before she's completely frozen solid.
- She Really Can Act: Considering she was put up alongside Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dominique Fishbach's performance is one thing almost all critics can agree was a highlight of the movie.
- So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus is that it's an entertaining flick with a spot-on cast, a premise that had far more to offer than what it gave us, and a so-so delivery in its message.
- Spiritual Licensee: Being set in a rundown city stricken by crime, corruption, and a Fantastic Drug epidemic that temporarily grants its users superhuman abilities, one could argue this movie got some of its inspiration from BioShock.
