YMMV / Obey Me! – One Master to Rule Them All!

Go To

  • Adorkable:
    • Mammon's initial dislike of the MC quickly gives way to a rather obvious crush, and his tsundere personality and awkward attempts at kindness, as well his genuine protective streak for his human, has charmed many a fan. He may give his brothers no small amount of grief, but through his interactions with them and the protagonist it's fairly obvious Mammon's something of a lovable dork more than anything.
    • Leviathan:
      • Being a pretty hardcore shut-in means he has the stereotypical lack of social skills, as well as a tendency to go off on long-winded tangents about a game or anime that he likes.
      • If your Special Guest interaction with him is great, he will say you’re like a boss before he gets flustered and tries to explain it’s a compliment rather than an insult.
    • Diavolo. The next Demon King has a surprisingly childlike fun-loving side, much to Lucifer's chagrin. This is noticeable in instances like being jealous he wasn't invited to the pillow fight during the retreat, and having the time of his life when Lucifer starts throwing around flaming pillows of death to punish his siblings.
  • Angel/Devil Shipping: Applies to any ships between the demons and the angels, Lucifer/Simeon in particular.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Belphegor. A good chunk of players still can't forgive him for killing the MC and find him to be a brat. Other fans find him adorable, like his tragic backstory concerning Lillith's death and point out that some of the other brothers have attempted to kill the MC, but Belphegor receives hate because he's the only one to succeed.
    • Asmo. Some of the fans love him for his sassy attitude, occasionally sweet nature and cute looks, but others find him bland, one-dimensional (he is the only brother who never contributes anything to the game's plot) and find his constant flirting with everyone (including his own brothers, who are understandably rather uncomfortable with this) quite Squick-inducing.
    • Lucifer also applies to this. Many like him for his attractive design, his secret soft side for his siblings and the MC, and as well as finding him complex. However, many also dislike him, finding him to be rude and overbearing, accuse him of being a Creator's Pet due to the amount of screentime he gets compared to everyone else, and despise how outright cruel his punishments can be for his brothers (especially Mammon). Plus there's the fact he tries to kill/seriously harm MC twice in the main story but he never gets the Never Live It Down status Belphie does from his detractors, merely because Lucifer was unsuccessful at doing so.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Belphegor being the prisoner in the attic. Even if the game's outside material had managed to somehow pass by some fans, the fact that the seventh brother is "in the human world" when he's a romantic option, Belphegor's sprite design literally having a pillow to match the "Sloth" theme, and the fact that him and Beelzebub have the exact same eye color would have most likely spelled it out.
  • Cliché Storm: The seven brothers are all marketed as different "types" one might typically find in a dating sim (though they are shown to have hidden depths).
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Leviathan struggles with his impulse control regarding his demon form, is very awkward when it comes to social interaction (preferring to take online classes over face-to-face interaction), has many hyperfixations with anime, games and especially TLS (including the fact that he can remember the smallest details from the novels), tends to be blunt and unintentionally rude and the fact that he often gets overexcited when it comes to his hobbies has led to many fans chalking it up to Levi having autism. One of the anime episodes even demonstrates that he has a tendency to frequently info-dump about his favorite magical girl series Ruri-Hana during a movie showing, which is another common trait in autistic individuals.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Out of the "Undateable" characters, Simeon seems to be the most popular thanks to being a Nice Guy with a mischievous side and having a very attractive design.
  • Fan Nickname: Diavolo, Barbatos, Solomon and Simeon are referred to as the "Undateables" by the fandom.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With Ayakashi: Romance Reborn. Several Obey Me! players are also Ayakashi players, and those that don't play both games are very friendly with people who play the other.
    • There are also several OM! players that regularly play A3! and AfterL!fe
  • Idiosyncratic Ship Naming: Beelzebub x MC x Belphie is known as "Attic Sandwich" in the fandom.
  • It's Hard, So It Sucks!: Starting after Lesson 20, the difficulty level spiked in dance battles, making it nearly impossible to continue unless you have multiple UR's. The same can be said for the amount of points you need to get to receive the event cards, making it also near impossible to get the UR cards unless you pour actual money into it. Many have given up on getting the event cards, and even the main story altogether. The creators do seemed to have taken note of this and have been recently attempting to mitigate it by making UR cards easier to obtain on Nightmare and giving players a free UR+ card of Asmo for Christmas.
  • Memetic Mutation: It's become common to joke about Satan's clothes, whether it be because most of his outfits are not well liked or because he just can't seem to wear a jacket properly. It's also a common joke that Satan purposefully dresses terribly because it annoys Lucifer and Asmo.
    • Jokes that Lucifer is the true Avatar of Lust because of how risqué his responses tend to be when he flirts with MC.
    • Beel is baby.
    • Diavolo trying to be hip and cool with everyone.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: The Queen Rose Event has some players frustrated because the entire premise was that the brothers have to learn to pose as women, as the Queen Rose Does Not Like Men, but not only do we not get to see the genderswapped brothers except as rare SSR cards, but Queen Rose also never actually shows up - she directly speaks to MC, but she doesn't get her own sprite and is just a talking box. It can get frustrating that they adamantly refuse to draw any female sprites.
    • To an even greater extreme with Lilith. Not only does she not get a sprite of her own, she doesn’t even appear again in the main story except to serve as something of a Deus ex Machina in order to progress the Belphegor storyline. Her brief appearance has yet to get a real resolution, and many fans wonder when she will make a reappearance.
  • The Woobie: Beelzebub. Though initially he seems to only care about food, as the game goes on you learn that he's been carrying around some serious Survivor Guilt after Lilith died and Beel blames himself for not being quick enough to save both her and Belphie, plus he has no idea where his twin is and misses him badly. Then he finds out Lucifer had locked Belphie away in the attic and lied to him and the others about it. He's so incensed he attacks Lucifer and leaves the House of Lamentation with the MC and Belphie, only to have his beloved brother taken away again by Diavolo. When Belphie does return, he feels so bad about being unaware of what was going on he avoids Belphie out of shame before the MC and Belphie talk some sense into him. He also comments that since Lilith's death, he always feels empty inside and eats so much to try and fill the emptiness up. Add to that that he's the sweetest and nicest of the demon brothers, you can't help but want to give the big guy a hug after all that.
