YMMV / Nagasarete Airantou

Go To

  • Fridge Horror: Suzuran returning as a ghost. Whether she's dead or not (the latter is still possible thanks to the island not being a stranger to the supernatural) it still begs the question: what really happened to her that no one even found out about it?
  • Fridge Logic: Apparently, it took Beniyasha less than a day to write and publish an adventure based on his antics.
  • Iron Woobie: Ikuto. Before coming to the island he was drifting on a life preserver for seven days without food or water. He spends the first episode/book futilely throwing himself against the same few whirlpools until it's absurd but only until he points out that he did that to learn their flow and sneak between them (there's an even larger one beyond it, sadly). His grandfather puts him through Training from Hell and its given him a fear of heights. In a free-for-all game of tag for marriage the day after he arrives, he gets dropped from a tremendous height and thrown an incredible distance and loses only by an involuntary gesture of bravery on his part. And the hits keep coming. On the other hand, with renewed training, he becomes a Badass Normal who manages to outwit or fairly beat four of the island's most powerful champions in a span of two days.
  • Les Yay:
    • Ayane's your soul mate, Michiru? Okay, no lesbian undertones to that...
    • Also, Karaage's little comment about it.
    • In one chapter, Chikage really enjoyed playing with Suzu's hair. Again with chapter 11. Sure, she thinks it's For Science!, but...
    • The scene with Suzu and Chikage in chapter 11 is a rather blatant example.
  • Nightmare Fuel: When Ikuto falls into the water in the beginning of the anime, the shadow of a very large sea monster with glowing red eyes appears.
  • One-Scene Wonder: One picture shows Kokoro and Hanzou getting married...upside down.
  • Values Dissonance: Some, in that Yashiro, Machi and Ayane's great-grandmother claims to be 64...which means that each generation would have had to give birth at age 16.
  • The Woobie: Suzu. Both parents missing, and her feelings are conflicted over wanting Ikuto to either stay or leave the island. Ouch.
