  • Alternate Character Interpretation: While the game generally seems to give you the idea that The Investigator has a Heel–Face Turn when they save Pat, there's just as much evidence to suggest that it was more out of professionalism. The only way to see this ending is to investigate everybody who's even tangentially connected to Pat's family; as such, it's quite possible that the Investigator didn't save Pat out of guilt or fondness for him, but because they realized that nobody had actually put a contract on him, and they'd be killing him for no reason and no payout.
    • It's also possible that Pat realizes this, and forgives the hitman anyway - which can be taken as a metaphor for not fearing the reaper.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The Knife is easily the most popular character in the game, due to both being an Expy Shout-Out to the Yakuza series from a western game, and his hilarious Animesque dating sim minigame being considered a highlight.
  • Fashion-Victim Villain: Not so much Prince, but Princess Valentino has an inverted bowl cut that would do Moe proud and a dress that looks like it was designed by a drunken geometry professor.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Joanie's pinball minigame has some annoying facets going against it. The viewpoint is at an odd angle, making the perspective harder than it has to be, and draining the ball by sending it down the gaps tucked alongside the flipper ramps is really easy.
  • Tear Jerker: Pat's death in the Bad Ending, especially if you look at it from Pat's perspective. For seemingly the first time in forever, Pat seems completely at ease with everything and turns to you with a joyous smile as you walk up to him, showing just how much he trusts you now, only for you to shove him off the balcony to his doom. Pat was finally at peace with things (if only for a short while) and had made a new friend, only for said new friend to be the one who was really out to kill him. The feeling of utter betrayal is palpable from Pat's terrified expression as he falls. The fact that it's you who does it (likely after getting attached to the character yourself) really drives home how much of a Wham Shot the scene is.
  • The Un-Twist: What else would they be planning for Pat on his birthday? This provides decent cover for the actual twist, which is that there is someone out to get Pat: the player character!
