YMMV / Kid Cosmic

Go To

  • Awesome Art: As is usually the case with Craig McCracken's work, the show has already drawn much praise for its art direction, which draws inspiration from Newspaper Comics, Belgian Comics, and the Silver Age.
  • Awesome Music: A lot of it can be heard here.
    • The Kid is a fast paced punk track that serves as Kid Cosmic's theme, and also an Expository Theme Song for him and how the story begins.
    • From Papa G's character short, the mass ditty he and his clones perform while setting up Kid's landing station.
    • Episode 5 has The Martian Hop play during Kid’s battle with the Demon Dogs.
    • "Galactic Interference" is a rockin' tune combining a gritty guitar and a synthesizer melody. A perfect tune for alien invasions.
    • The final minutes of "Kid Cosmic and the Planet Killer" gives a powerful electronic music score for Papa G's sacrifice and the destruction of Erodius and the power of the stones fading forever. No words needed.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: It's not hard to piece together that Papa G's lucky charm is a Stone when it's given some focus in Season 3, especially due to Kid and Jo debating if they should go looking for one right after it. Where exactly the stone came from and what it would do to Erodius is more of a shock.
  • Crossover Ship:
    • It's not uncommon to have fans draw Kid Cosmic getting along with The Powerpuff Girls due to them being young heroes who can fly and also because of Friendly Fandoms below.
    • Recently it’s become common to see fanart of Kid Cosmic paired with the kids from Ninjala, for some unknown reason.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Flo wanting to protect her mother's diner in Season 1 becomes this when it gets destroyed at the end of Season 2.
    • The ending of Season 2 becomes this with The Reveal in Season 3 that the Local Heroes never did destroy Erodius and save Earth, it was actually just a fantasy that Fantos sent them to.
    • Kid naming his bicycle "Spitfire" and mourning its destruction takes on a bit of a sadder tone when a Season 3 flashback reveals Papa G helped him build it.
  • Ho Yay: Boss Fiosa blushes when Queen Xhan calls her beautiful.
  • Idiosyncratic Ship Naming:
    • "Papastuck" for the ship of Papa G/Stuck Chuck.
    • "Fryburg" for Fry/Hamburg.
  • I Knew It!: Before Season 2 dropped, a lot of people predicted that the other eight Stones of Power would go to Chuck and the customers of Mo's Oasis.
  • Informed Wrongness: While Kid's initial treatment of Rosa is a little harsh, not wanting a 4 year old to join his superhero team is more reasonable than the show expects us to believe it is.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Two times in Season 3, the show tries to make you think Papa G is gonna be killed off. Even Kid gets in on the "will this be the end of them? Let's see" train when he refuses to link with his friends and instead submits to the whirlpool of goo on Erodious so he could get the stones back. Both times, it is just a fake-out.
  • Memetic Mutation: Papa G being described as an elderly human Wander is common.
    • Following the premise of season 2, everyone agrees that the series is basically a retelling of Wander Over Yonder but with humans.
    • Papa G and his clones putting together a structure all by themselves in a musical number in his character short became a popular template for captioning.
  • Moe:
    • Rosa is an adorable 4-year-old girl and her becoming a giant just makes her even cuter.
    • Kid himself has his moments where he's simply Endearingly Dorky, especially when he's excited.
  • The Woobie: Kid Cosmic looks and acts like an Ascended Fanboy but when you dig deeper, you see a scared, insecure little boy trying to move on from the death of his parents and wishing to be a hero to prevent these tragedies and have some control over his life.
