YMMV / Hellaverse

  • Fandom-Enraging Misconception: In general, a very easy way to make a Hellaverse fan extremely mad and defensive is to claim that the overall humor of the universe consists primarily of low-effort rapid-fire swearing and sex jokes on par with shows like Brickleberry. While it is true that the Hellaverse is known for its extreme Vulgar Humor, saying this to a fan is guaranteed to entail a lecture on how there are many different types of dark and raunchy humor that it displays and invite comparisons to other works which have just as much if not more profanity and risque humor (Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt coming up a lot) which never have this accusation leveled at them.
  • Franchise Original Sin: A common rising criticism that many people had with Hazbin Hotel and season 2 of Helluva Boss is how the writing was handled, which including some of the problems like adding unresolved plot points, tonal whiplash, and the episodes taking a detour away from the main story. Even as far back as the pilot of Hazbin Hotel, these aspects have been intrinsic to the overall tone of the Hellaverse (e.g. "Loo Loo Land" being a whirlwind of character-focused drama, wordbuilding and Mood Whiplash jokes). However, fans were more willing to forgive any perceived cracks in the narrative because the overall episodic story of Helluva Boss was still quite strong and Hazbin was still in its gestation period with only a pilot episode and some ancillary material to work with. Complaints about the narratives of both shows became much stronger after Helluva Boss had established itself well into its second season and Hazbin Hotel became a fully-fledged animated TV show, due to the overall universe and characters being better established and less mercurial and speculative.
  • Gotta Ship 'Em All: Every major character from both series has been shipped with every other from at least their own series and some from the other one, plus a good number of minor and supporting characters who are shipped with them and amongst themselves. Basicaly, if two (or more) characters exist, you can bet that somebody ships them, whether seriously or ironically.

    • Hellaverse fans when they go to Hell and Satan isn't a quirky twink (or some variation thereupon) Explanation
  • Misaimed Fandom: Conservative viewers quickly called both shows' Casts Full of Gay to be an "ironic self-own against liberals" due to it depicting LGBT people in hell without any bigots and thinking that those people supposedly went to heaven. This ignores both Word of God that where you end up is not judged based on sexual orientation and gender identity, as evidenced by how the bisexual Sir Pentious manages to ascend to Heaven, but also how bigots like Katie Killjoy are also down there.
