YMMV / Friday Night Funkin' Soft

Go To

  • Angst Aversion: While a solid mod overall, the story's darker tone — including a heavy focus on abuse and manipulation — turned many people off from playing it, or resulted in them listening to the songs while skipping the game itself.
  • Awesome Music: The menu theme is very awesome and catchy, and quite lighthearted considering the overall themes of the mod.
  • Broken Base: The story; either you're interested in the game's darker tone that deals with some relatable issues, alongside a great showing of the Pico x Boyfriend ship with the two having a loving relationship and helping each other, or you dislike the story for how unrepentantly (sometimes needlessly) dark and depressing it is with its subject matter, alongside how much it pushes the Pico x Boyfriend ship, to the point of making Benjamin gay and giving Grace a dosage of Adaptational Villainy just to sink any possibility of BF x GF.
  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: There exists a subset of fans that prefer the story over the game itself.
  • Fanon: With the revelation that the universes of B3 Remixed, Neo and Soft are connected to each other, it's not uncommon to see fanart crossing over between the three universes.
    • A common headcanon is B3 Pico and Neo Pico treating Grace like a younger sister.
    • Benjamin hangs out with B3 Boyfriend and Neo Boyfriend for hamburgers every Saturday. This fanon would later be expanded with all three versions of Minus Boyfriend.
    • Connected to the above, Soft Pico hangs out with Shaya/B3 Girlfriend and Neo Girlfriend on Saturdays.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • Two of the mod characters in the background of the train station in "A Childhood Friend" are Ayana and Tabi, both exes of the canon Boyfriend and Girlfriend, and the week is centered around dealing with an ex who refuses to accept their loss.
    • Over halfway through Hope, Benjamin takes the initiative and starts dominating the song, singing over the Fairests and, later, interrupting them whenever they try to sing. In essence, this is an extension of Benjamin's "The Reason You Suck" Speech against his parents in the preceding cutscene, as he gives them A Taste of Their Own Medicine by disregarding them and not letting them get a word in edgewise, just like they used to do to him.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: One of Tankman's game over quotes in the base game is "No wonder [Boyfriend's] parents hate you". Meant as just a demoralizing wise crack, it takes on a much darker tone in the context of this mod due to Benjamin's parents actually hating him and seeing him as nothing more than a tool to continue their legacies.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • All of Benjamin and Pico's interactions show them as a loving, stable couple despite everything, especially with Pico repeatedly telling Benjamin to stand up for himself and not let himself be manipulated by his Abusive Parents.
    • After Benjamin reveals what The Fairests did to him to the public, everyone in the crowd looks worried for Benjamin, horrified and disgusted by his parents' actions, and a few look ready to kick their asses.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Fuck the FairestsExplanation
      • Even the Dearests have standardsExplanation
  • Moe: Benjamin is a sweet and shy boy who dreams of being a painter, and Grace is a very innocent and sheltered girl.
  • One True Threesome: Shipping Benjamin, Pico and Grace together surprisingly exists, mostly from people who aren't happy that Grace is not a relationship with Benjamin, either ignoring or not taking into account that it wouldn't work out in canon because Benjamin is gay.
  • Signature Song: "Hope" and "Genesis" for being Benjamin's most awesome moments.
  • The Woobie: This universe has not been kind to their version of the main trio:
