YMMV / Accomplishments of the Duke's Daughter

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • It's not clear how much recovering her past memories has changed Iris' personality.
    • Is Yuri merely a manipulative Gold Digger or an enemy spy trying to ruin the kingdom? It's confirmed later that she is in fact a spy.
  • Escapist Character: Iris is a beautiful, intelligent, rich, and kindhearted teenager who is able to build her own powerful company and become a major force in her kingdom via the use of memories from her past life as an accountant. Everything she does succeeds in a major way, helped by the fact that she is from a powerful noble family, has her past life memories, and is surrounded by a troupe of orphans she conveniently picked off the streets when she was little and are therefore hopelessly loyal to her. Her love interest is the crown prince (worth noting that her ex-fiance was the second prince) who is also attractive and respects her greatly as a businesswoman. The villains she goes up against are all stupid and immoral and end up getting their punishment, making her look even better. This is, however, somewhat downplayed from her own perspective, as it takes three years for Iris' efforts to see any real fruit, and for all her success Iris is brimming with trauma regarding the break-up with the second prince. From the outside looking in, it's easy to feel that Iris gets everything she could ever dream of, but the story itself explores just how draining it is for Iris to work towards fulfilling all her ambitions, even with regards to how much she loves her job.
  • Fridge Logic: Since the otome game setting is only an Excuse Plot for the main territory building plot, it makes the otome game aspects that stick around confusing to think about. Were Iris's and Yuri's backstories originally in the game? If so, how was Iris ever considered a villainess and Yuri the heroine?
    • One possible explanation could be that Iris herself acknowledged that she was only familiar with the Prince Edward route in the game, and she didn't complete the other routes prior to her previous life's death. It is entirely possible that a secret route or some kind of special feature might've revealed that Yuri was Evil All Along.
  • Hollywood Pudgy: Iris decides to exercise because she is "chubby", despite the art in both novel and manga depicting her as very slender. Later on she has supposedly lost so much weight her brother doesn't recognize her. She looks barely thinner.
  • Les Yay:
    • Tanya is extremely dedicated to Iris and shows it all the time.
    • The Dowager Queen comments on Mellice's beauty and how she wishes Mellice was "hers" feel more like a crush than as a woman looking for the perfect daughter in law.
  • Narm: The fact that the character pages for the novels describe all of Iris's servants as being picked up by her from the streets can come off as trying way too hard to make Iris look good. It also comes off as a lazy way for Iris to be surrounded by reliable allies from the start.
  • Narm Charm: Related to the above, the saccharine nature of a well-off noble rescuing kids off the street who come to show genuine loyalty to her and aid her in helping others in situations similar to their former lots in life does help sell the story's overall message early on, and their love and belief in Iris means that Iris has some allies out of the gate who can get her plans going where anyone else would likely hit a roadblock. Dida also allows Iris to start off as a well-meaning but street-dim aristocrat who still has some learning to do in regards to maneuvering around organized crime and gangs. Additionally, it's hard not to feel good seeing Tanya go from a pickpocket on the edge of death to a devoted Ninja Maid for her charge.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Berne’s Character Development has redeemed him in the eyes of the fans, especially after his apology to Iris.
  • Take That, Scrappy!:
    • While Berne gets rescued from the heap, it was satisfying for readers for Tanya to gag him so he would be quiet while watching his sister work. Additionally, the reason he sucks speeches he received from the various workers as well as his own mother were cathartic.
    • Dalton being put in his place by his family, Iris’ servants, and Iris herself was satisfying. Also being told he was no knight certainly was a blow to his ego he deserved.
  • The Scrappy: Yuri and her harem, but especially Ed and Yuri. Ed is a wasteful, irresponsible royal with some serious anger issues, and Yuri is air headed and vapid at best and a manipulative spy from an enemy kingdom at worst.
