Vocalads is a Vocaloid fan-made ask blog/webcomic and the sequel to the Love Electric zine made by Rice Deity. It follows Moke, Len, Piko, Fukase, and Oliver as the main characters, or the 'lads'.

The zine can be read here. The creator's Twitter can be found here.

Vocalads provides examples of:

  • Ahoge: Of the main cast, Piko, Oliver, Miki, and Yohio all have an ahoge.
  • Almost Kiss: While watching the snow fall together, Len leans in very close to Moke before they both chicken out, and return to the party.
  • April Fools' Day: On the first of April, 2020, the blog temporarily rebranded to 'Vocadads', and featured the cast of Big Al, Hiyama Kiyoteru, Kaito, Macne Papa, and Yuezheng Longya. The day after, the blog returned to normal.
  • Artificial Human: Yohio is an artificial human.
  • Big Eater: Oliver is shown on multiple occasions eating large quantities of baked goods on his own.
  • Bilingual Bonus: One event made the lads only capable of speaking the languages of their voicebanks (for example, Piko could only speak Japanese, Moke could only speak Chinese, and so on). Their dialogue is actually written in their native languages, albeit with translations (though these were not present while the event was still ongoing).
  • Birthday Episode: Whenever the date approaches one of the Lads' birthdays, there is an event dedicated to their birthday celebrations.
    • Piko's birthday is first to come up on December 8th, where the lads (+ Miki) hold a small birthday party at Piko's house with lots of cake and a sleepover. Piko finds Oliver the next morning in a bathtub and an empty bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetoes.
    • Moke's birthday is next on December 10th, whose "party" was more of a networking/promotional event for Vsinger more than anything. He's fine with it, considering he got to attend Piko's birthday party two days before.
    • Oliver's birthday on December 21st has the lads (and Ruby) come over to the PowerFX mansion. The morning after the party, before the lads are about to head back home, Oliver thanks the lads for coming to his birthday party and for being friends with him for the past few years.
    • Len (and Rin)'s birthday is on December 24th, where a large commemorative party is held for the both of them, with every Vocaloid character (and two UTAU characters) who had appeared on the blog up until that point making an appearance or being mentioned. It's a fairly significant moment in Len and Moke's relationship.
    • Fukase's birthday is on January 28th, where Arsloid holds a party for him. Piko and Arsloid get into an argument about the latter's mistakes with Fukase in the past, with Fukase himself and Piko arguing afterwards about his behavior with Arsloid. Fukase spends the rest of the day at Flower's party.
  • Body Horror: Fukase is designed to be heavily scarred on his left side, with a glass eye instead of a real one. Oliver also shows this when he reveals that his bandages cover an empty eye hole full of a leaking black substance.
  • Celeb Crush: Moke has a celebrity crush on Len.
  • Chocolate of Romance: Xinhua displayed this trope when she gave honmei choco chocolates to Moke on Valentines Day to confess her feelings for him.
  • Clueless Dude Magnet: Len is a clueless dude magnet, because all of his friends had or currently have a crush on him, and he has never noticed.
  • Color Failure: When Len brought Miku to the lads Friday McDonalds run, the other lads were so surprised that they become colorless with shock at unexpectedly meeting the worlds most famous idol.
  • Color-Coded Characters: While their assigned colors aren't always exactly the same hexcode every time, they generally are still recognizable by their assigned colors. Of the lads, Moke is blue, Len is yellow, Fukase is red, Piko is light green (with a slight blue tint), and Oliver is gray.
  • The Confidant: Flower's the one person Fukase trusts with hearing out his feelings and troubles.
  • Creepy Child: Oliver.
  • Death of Personality: Oliver's head belonged to a Victorian child before he died, he has no memories of his past life before being revived to become a Frankenstein's monster, so this would be the death of who he was in his prior life.
  • Desecrating the Dead: Hio seems to be a fan of this, as he made Big Al, Sweet Ann, and Oliver out of the body parts of dead people.
  • Dropping the Bombshell: Len revealed that he was the one who had spread rumors about Xinhua having a boyfriend, when Moke had specifically trusted him not to do such a thing.
  • Dumb Blonde: Len and Rin.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: All of the characters have different eye designs, but some notable examples include:
    • Miki has star-shaped pupils to emphasize her Genki Girl personality.
    • Lui and Ring have X-shaped pupils, likely due to their cancellation.
  • Expressive Hair: Yohio's ahoge is sometimes seen to emote or react to things Yohio takes interest in.
  • Festival Episode: During summer of 2020 the lads ran a shaved ice stall together at a summer festival.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Oliver has been shown to eat rat poison and dirt.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: Oliver, Sweet Ann and Big Al, are all examples of Frankenstein's Monsters.
  • Freaky Friday: There have been two body swap m!a's thus far.
    • The first one swapped Fukase and Moke, and Oliver and Len.
    • The second one swapped Oliver and Moke and put Len in Piko's body, Piko in Fukase's body and Fukase in Len's body.
  • Friends with Benefits: Longya and Cyber Songman are heavily implied to be friends with benefits.
  • Gentle Giant: True to his name, Big Al is huge, but he's a sweet guy who loves his family very much. Unfortunately, sometimes his large build makes it difficult to see people who are shorter than him.
  • Glass Eye: Fukase has one. It's just for aesthetic purposes, so it has normal vision.
  • Good with Numbers: It can be assumed that Moke is good at math since he helps Xinhua with her math classes.
  • Gut Feeling: When Len ditched his own birthday party, leaving Rin to tend to all of the collective guests, Rin states that she thinks Len has done something stupid saying "I can feel it."
  • Hates Being Touched: Oliver has stated on multiple occasions that he hates being touched.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Oliver has mentioned that he struggles with modern technology.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: When Fukase learned that Moke is dating Xinhua, he found this suspicious as he knew about Moke's longstanding crush on Len. Fearing that Moke had only started dating Xinhua as a "second-best replacement," Fukase took it upon himself to threaten Moke, stating he would, hypothetically, rip the skin off Moke's body, if such were the case.
  • Insufferable Genius: Yohio.
  • Lethal Chef: Xinhua has been shown to not be great at cooking, when making Valentines Day chocolates, it was shown that it was going so poorly, that the chocolate was going up in smoke. Fukase stated that she probably would've poisoned someone at the rate she was going.
    • Kaito is also another probable example of this trope.
  • Losing Your Head: When Oliver is undergoing maintenance for his body he is sometimes just a disembodied head.
  • Love at First Sight: Rin is an example of this trope because she fell in love with Gumi at first sight. However she did not fully realize her feelings at that time.
  • Love Dodecahedron: As of approximately page 100: Fukase and Piko have had crushes on Len in the past, but not anymore. They have also been rather touchy-feely with each other, leading lots of people (both in-universe and out) to believe they're dating. Oliver has been implied to have crushes on both Len and Moke, and Fukase has also been implied to have a crush on Moke. Moke and Len, of course, have been pining for each other... but Moke decides to date Xinhua who feels more available to him, and Xinhua is also implied to have a crush on the UTAU Xia Yu Yao.
  • Love Epiphany: Rin had fallen for Gumi at first sight, but did not realize her feelings until they were filming a music video. Gumi had cut her hair for the filming of the video and to try a new hairstyle, which Rin found to be very good looking.
  • Luminescent Blush: When characters are embarrassed or have flushed faces, they usually blush in their signature color.
  • Lured into a Trap: When Len locked himself in the Crypton house's guest bedroom because he was upset that Moke got a girlfriend Rin, Miku, and Kaito made banana bread to lure Len out. This proved to be effective.
  • Malicious Libel: Len spread rumors on gossip websites to hurt/ruin Xinhua's career, because he was jealous of her for dating Moke.
  • Meaningful Background Event: During Len's birthday arc, we get a rare glimpse of Fukase wearing a suit instead of his usual skirts or dresses. He mentions, with some discomfort, that Arsloid got it for him. In Fukase's birthday event, it's revealed that he is extremely uncomfortable around Arsloid and avoids him as much as possible. This explains why Arsloid doesn't realize that Fukase prefers skirts over pants, and why Fukase seems uncomfortable at the mention of him.
  • Never Learned to Read: During an interaction with another Vocaloid ask blog, asktonerion, it is revealed that Oliver cannot read.
  • Not a Morning Person: Moke is not a morning person, and has been shown to be both difficult to wake, and still groggy and sleepy after getting up.
  • Only Mostly Dead: After his fight with Fukase, Piko was too upset and forgot to charge himself and died. He remained dead for four days before Miki found him and helped charge him back up again.
  • Only Sane Man: Piko and Moke usually play this role.
  • Opposite Day: For an m!a, Oliver was forced to say the opposite of what he wanted to say for 5 asks.
  • Rage Breaking Point: there have been two rage breaking points in vocalads thus far.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: Out of the main cast, Len, Fukase, and Piko are all androids. Many other side characters are also androids. They possess free will, the newer models can all eat (With the exception of Miki, due to her more robotic theming) and charge automatically when they sleep.
  • Running Gag: Oliver only has one eye, and Piko has heterochromia, and it is often joked that Piko stole Oliver's missing eye for himself, hence his heterochromia.
  • Secret Identity: During the April Fools 2021 event, Kiyoteru reveals that he keeps his status as the lead vocalist in his band ICE MOUNTAIN a secret from his student Yuki.
  • Secret Relationship: Moke and Xinhua have to keep their relationship a secret from the press due to Xinhua's idol status.
    • Apparently, Miku used to be in one of these with IA, but they had to break up for the same reason.
  • Sexier Alter Ego: Kiyoteru's alter ego "Ice Mountain Teru" is shown to be quite sexy in contrast with his usual self, showing him in a half open shirt while preforming.
  • Staging an Intervention: When Len was upset that Moke got a girlfriend and locked himself in the guest room, the Crypton family held an intervention to try and help him feel better, and offer advice for his situation. It did not end up helping.
  • Stepford Smiler: Fukase is an example of a stepford smiler.
  • Sibling Seniority Squabble: Both Len and Rin, who are twins, have referred to each other as their little brother or sister at different points. However technically speaking rin is the older sibling, because she was designed first.
  • Stoic Woobie: Oliver is this, by far. The poor kid is in constant pain, having been made out of an amalgamation of body parts. And yet, he hardly ever shows any emotion.
    • Fukase has his moments, too. A facial expression meme reveals that he barely emotes at all, regardless of what mood he's in. That is, until his birthday arc, where we finally get to see him snap...at Piko.
  • Stunned Silence: When Len brought Miku to the lads Friday McDonalds run, the other lads were shocked into stunned silence.
    • Len, Piko, and Oliver were also shocked into stunned silence when Moke shouted at Len for spreading rumors about Xinhua's relationship.
  • Sweet Tooth: Oliver has a sweet tooth, and is often seen eating various sweets. This is later explained by the fact that sweet and spicy are the only flavors he can taste, albeit muted and generic.
  • The Ageless: Moke has stated that he, Ling, and Qingxian have not aged since 2012 and have been repeating the same year in high school since that time. This is likely due to their connection with an interdimensional space goddess, as well as a link with a powerful spirit deity.
  • The Stoic: Oliver and Fukase usually play this role.
  • Trash of the Titans: Flower's apartment was shown to be an example of this trope, until Fukase cleaned it.
  • Twin Switch: Because Len and Rin are identical, it is easy for them to switch places if needed/desired. This is shown in an M!A where the anon asked for a genderbent M!A, but instead, Rin showed up with her hair halfhazardly tied up like Len's and she proceeded to make jokes about him while posing as him.
    • However Len and Rin can trade places completely convincingly, as Len later later talks about how he and Rin have traded places in the past, when Len stood in for Rin when she was late for a photoshoot.
  • Unexplained Past Incident: Fukase once referenced an event called "The Great BK Incident of 17'." It is implied to have been such an upsetting event, that upon its mention, Piko said he would leave if discussed or elaborated upon further.
  • Unwanted Revival: Oliver has stated in the past that he is unhappy that he was brought back from the dead and his eternal rest was disturbed, for a variety of reasons.
  • Willing Channeler: Roro and Kiku are both examples of this trope as they are possessed by vy2 and vy1 respectively.
  • You Are Not Alone: Pre-release, Moke was cold, distant, and bitter before the rest of the Vsinger gang, particularly Qingxian, helped him cope.
  • You Must Be Cold: After Len ditched his own birthday party with Moke, Len lent his jacket to Moke because it was snowing.
