Web Original / Arkn: Unity

Go To

Arkn: Unity is a 2020 addition to the web-based Arkn Mythos franchise. Created by DeathlyLogic, Penthepoet, and PlatinumQueen, it is the canonical prequel to Arkn: Legacy. A reboot of The Arknverse, Unity is intended to replace the former Arknthology storyline, with new, consistent lore, an entirely new universe, and new characters to replace those created by estranged former creators.

Here, finally, is the definitive story of Universe A: the monstrous Hethe who created and shaped it; the birth of the Arkn, the Dekn, and humanity; the origins of the Forever War between the races; and the events that led to the universe's destruction — and the birth of Universe X.

While plans were made for at least three phases of storytelling in Unity, the franchise has been on hiatus since 2020 while the developers work on other projects in the wider multiverse.

Arkn: Unity provides examples of:

  • Action Girl: Phobos, the second-in-command of the Arkn army. It is also hinted that Ambriel will later fit into this category.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: The royal family (and many members of the royal court) are (or become) malicious, backstabbing, conniving, murderous, or all of the above.
  • Back from the Dead: Applies to both Hashmal and Xerex Storn, as well as Ambriel.
    • Hashmal was almost killed by Dekncraath, who was unaware of his survival until running into his son in the City of Steam.
    • Xerex fell into The Infernous after his mother was stabbed by Dekncraath. His siblings were unaware of his imprisonment and survival for years, until Hashmal and his team journeyed into The Infernous and learned his identity as Ersarith, Prince of the Infernous.
    • Ambriel has returned from death twice. First, she was imprisoned in The Infernous and tortured for many eternities; she eventually escaped, and was inexplicably resurrected when she returned to the world of the living. Then, during the Battle of Paradisium, she sacrificed herseld in the city's engine, using her innate powers to weaponize the city (with her Life Energy acting as the battery, and her soul as the pilot). She was later resurrected, though at the cost of her wings and powers.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: El'lepagi, the Prince of the Arkn, suffers for untold eons in the Infernous, emerging as a rage-filled, vengeful monster.
  • But Thou Must!: In Chapter 1 of Those Who Fall, Ambriel, upon being confronted by a vision of Jose'phine, insists that she can use her Hethian power to take her mother out of the spirit plain, and that they can still be a family. Jose'phine stops her, telling Ambriel that everything must happen as it does for a reason (and that Ambriel cannot allow her power to consume her).
  • Childhood Friends: Prince Ell'epagi and Midhir Lyonesse. Their friendship lasts through adolescence and into early adulthood, up until Ellpagg's betrayal (and corruption).
  • Continuity Reboot: Unity is a reboot of The Arknverse, specifically the Anthology lore. Many aspects of the Myth Arc — the cosmology, settings, most of the characters, and even the character histories and stories — have been left largely intact. However, other elements have been rewritten (Urabi being a Composite Character and taking the place of Uriel) or omitted entirely (Raphael and his family), and new characters have been thrown into the mix (such as Midhir Lyonesse).
  • Drunk with Power: A recurring theme in Unity; it's shown time and time again that power has the ability to turn a being with even the most noble and benevolent of intentions into a monster.
  • Forever War: The Arkn and the Dekn have been at war with one another almost since their creation. This is very much by design.
  • Groin Attack: The first time Ellpagg and Midhir fight, Midhir hits him in "the unmentionables".
  • I Am Not My Father: Hashmal despises Dekncraath. He loathes that he is his son by blood, wishing at times he were never born, and takes active steps to stand against his father to prove to himself and to others that he will never be like him.
  • Immortality: The Arkn and Dekn who possess Hethian blood are immortal; all other members of their species are Long-Lived.
  • Our Angels Are Different: In keeping with the previous incarnations of the franchise, the Arkn are winged, quasi-immortal, ethereal-looking beings with supernatural abilities that (while serving the creatures that humans typically think of as "angels") are really just a race of alien creatures.
  • Portal Door: The First Circle, a portal which is said to have appeared in the void before Existence. The Hethe emerged from it, creating Universe A.
  • Two-Headed Coin: A variation of this is utilized by Midhir in the first chapter of Maelstrom of Fate: his mother enchants a coin with a Glamour so that it always lands in his favor (thus ensuring that Inuid will take Midhir to become a servant of the court, over his half-brother),
