WMG / X Chronicles

Go To

The Spared By Adaptation trope is a result of X knowing his future, making X Chronicles X's own Fix Fic.
This is a continuation of the "The entire Mega Man series takes place in X's head while in his "30+ years" of stasis" theory. I mean, X knows all about the upcoming events of the X series, as well as about the doomsday event shown in Mega Man Legends. X realized that the grim future shown in the Zero series is caused by his own actions, and he looked at his actions during the X series to see what actions he needed to change.
  • The first change was when he allowed the X1 Mavericks to survive. Since the original A.I.s of the Mavericks could no longer be used, the virus had to create new A.I.s. This also led to a different backstory for Slash Beast.
  • It's not too far-fetched to say that X was traumatized by his vision of Iris' death, and that it popped in his head when a woman died in his arms, right before X1's first stage. How else could you explain why X only told Alia about his plans when her mentor, Flame Stag, went Maverick? Furthermore, Double nearly killed Cadis, a friend of Tripwire's, and X was hateful of Double because he put one of X's friends through a Heroic B So D. That's also why X told Zero to keep Iris alive while X was fighting Double, and why he used Nova Strike to get to Zero. X doesn't want anyone to suffer anymore. Heck, X might be in a Heroic B So D himself throughout the entire series, and he won't snap out of it until he'll avert the crisis he saw while in stasis! (In other words, stop Dr. Wily once and for all. X partly knows this, since he knows Zero and the virus were created by Wily, but he doesn't know Wily is still around, and thinks he killed Wily when he destroyed Serges.)
  • Why is X so paranoid of Teagan? Because he saw Dr. Weil into Teagan, especially after what Double did.
  • Of course, though, there are times when he's really mad and seems to forget about it: when Zero pulled a Heroic Sacrifice to save X from Vile, and when Magma Dragoon reveals himself to have Colony Dropped Sky Lagoon. In the second case, Zero becomes X's voice of reason.
  • The only question left is, how could Dr. Light predict such accurately the events from X1 to X4?
    • I guess pure luck?
The Grand Finale will be a mix between X5 and X6, with Gate replacing Dynamo as The Dragon.
  • Gate will bring out his Nightmare Investigators, albeit it will be a case of Came Back Wrong, since they will be infected.
    • Gate bringing out his Nightmare Investigators is confirmed.
  • Gate will also try to have Colonel and Iris betray Repliforce and the Maverick Hunters respectively. I don't know about Colonel, but Iris will refuse, making a Call-Back to the Repliforce incident, stating that she nearly died because she listened to Gate, and will vow to never do anything that will hurt her friends again.
  • X stated in the X4 arc he will act sus in order to fool The Virus. However, this will be the cause of the X vs. Zero fight from X5, since Zero will believe X actually went Maverick.
    • Well, Zero does believe something's wrong with X.
  • Expanding on the above, The Nightmare will resemble X rather than Zero.
  • Alia will expand on her past with Gate. Since she can't reveal it to X, due to him acting sus, she'll talk with Zero about it.
  • Most likely, X will turn out to be a Decoy Protagonist all along on the series' long run, and it will be Zero, who has a final Heroic Resolve, to delete The Virus once and for all.
  • Hopefully, the Maverick Hunters will all have a Happily Ever After. No Zero, ZX, or Legends series. They all worked s-o hard to get a happy ending, so it will be really sad if they didn't...
    • Confirmed. The last chapter is a "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue, where it is shown that, while the X1 and X2 Mavericks and Sigma didn't return to their original identities, all Maverick Hunters and Repliforce members got a happy ending. Even the Maverick Virus got one, having undergone a Heel–Face Turn and apparently a Gender Bender, and she even did some Heel-Face Brainwashing on the Mavericks that X couldn't redeem. That means Vile, Bit, Byte, Frost Walrus, Jet Stingray, Cyber Peacock, Magma Dragoon and Colonel. Really, the only ones who didn't get a happy ending are:
      • Dr. Wily, for obvious reasons.
      • The three Split Mushrooms, who ended up destroying each other.
      • Councilor Teagan, who was the closest thing this series has to a Dr. Weil and was put behind bars.
      • Double, who was working for Teagan and was destroyed either by X or the General (see below).
      • The General, who chose to defy Spared By Adaptation and sacrifice himself to destroy the Final Weapon despite X's pleas, taking Double with him in the process.
  • The initial WMG is jossed. The plot of X5 is skipped thanks to a Wave-Motion Gun Web Spider created, and Gate and Dynamo are Co-Dragons. However, many of the plot elements above are still standing, and the Nightmare Investigators and Colonel being involved in the scheme is confirmed.
