There are many characters in X Chronicles you can't help but feel sorry for.
- Practically all viral Mavericks, aside from the Counter Hunters. As they put it themselves, The Virus took over their functional parts and their cognitive functions, leaving only their emotions. And said emotions can only watch as The Virus uses the body to cause immeasurable chaos and destruction. Gets worse with the Maverick Hunters turned Maverick, because it's the same chaos and destruction they've been trying to prevent. Even Sigma is a Woobie for this reason.
- X is definitely a Stoic Woobie. Not only is he the template of all Reploids (and therefore Mavericks), he's also the one best equipped to hunt them down and kill them, and thus feels duty-bound to do so even though he hates violence.
- Zero. Not only he's forced to fight and nearly kill his one true love, but with X knowing Zero's creator is Dr. Wily, Zero definitely becomes a Stoic Woobie himself.
- Alia. Not only Doppler Effect implies her scientist background is similar to her game counterpart's, but this fanfic makes her lose more other people than just Gate. She lost her unit and her trainer, Flame Stag, to The Virus. The latter got better under a new identity. And now X is doing something extremely risky: pretending to have gone Maverick to stab The Virus in the back. It's surprising she can still smile.
- Repliforce was wrongly accused for being Maverick by the power-mad Teagan, so it's no surprise they revolted and tried to turn a Kill Sat into a Robot Republic. They'd be a Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds if they wanted to use the Kill Sat against humanity, which, frankly, is not the case.
- Iris just wants world peace, yet this sweet innocent girl got thrown into two forces fighting for their beliefs and she's torn in which side to pick, leading to her brother Colonel getting wounded by X, and her going past the Despair Event Horizon after Colonel called her a traitor before being nearly killed by Zero.
- Chronicle 5 reveals the Maverick Virus to actually be a Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds, only causing her crimes because Wily was forcing her to.
