The "incident" was an orgy instigated by Tristan Carino.
He and his uncle slept with all of the women, all of whom went into catatonic shock from the awesomeness of it. Then he beat up all the guys who protested that they wouldn't do a threesome until they were unconscious. Then his uncle beat him up until he was also in a coma...so that no one would know the horrible truth!
  • I think you meant TRISTAN CARINO, DESTROYER OF WORLDS!!
    • I think he'd prefer TRISTAN CARINO, DICK OF STEEL himself.

The patients are all in a Matrix-esc computer simulation.
  • People, objects, even entire locations seem to appear out of nowhere.
  • The npcs don't notice any unusual events, even something as obvious as an earthquake or their brother suddenly having boobs. In a computer sense, they could be not programmed to notice anything. The doctors' reluctance to speak about the incident that caused the coma epidemic could also be due to a lack of data.
    • Dr. Kwan revealed part of what happened after Liz/Sally was rescued, though.
      • Yeah, but Its implied that if the fact he told her gets out he could be in big trouble.
  • The loose animals from the zoo outbreak during February's snowstorm were unsettlingly familiar creatures to several patients. Whoever's behind this program must have known about them.
  • Information about the city or the world at large cannot be found even in a local library. Again, deleted data?
  • The event starting on March 26th featured the world suddenly rearranging itself followed by the patients all suddenly feeling sick. A glitch?
  • On March 27th a gamer girl from Beijing hacked into the communication system by mistake, and could even see things the npcs couldn't, such as the fact that Pinkie Pie is a pony. Could she have come from the outside?
  • The geography of the IQR is confusing; it's assumed by most that Kon Ran is in China, and yet the population outside the city speaks Korean. This could be either a glitch in the system or a deliberate unusual choice of programming.
  • Citizens outside the city, for the brief moment they could be encountered, are rude and do not like Kon Ran's pcs. Perhaps they were programmed that way to further encourage them to stay within the boundaries of the city.
  • In July, everybody was sent back five years into the past, a few displaced in some unusual locations. Perhaps the machine wanted them to see what they would find there for some greater purpose.
  • Lisa Owens was recently revealed as an undercover cop with deliberately-enduced DPD. When her identity was revealed by accident, Li Oppenheimer said they had to "deprogram" her. Suspicious choice of words, wouldn't you think?
    • Not entirely suspicious, since The term "deprogramming" refers to reversing any kind of perceived mind control or brainwashing, such as people in cults. But still kind of creepy.

The patients are all under the influence of some sort of hallucinogenic drug injected through the SCRAMS
That would explain why Dr. Owens is so insistent on keeping the patients on them, and why the npcs can't see the unusual things that the patients can. The sickness after the March 26 earthquake could be a result of overdose from the SCRAMS going haywire.

KIM are preparing for an alien invasion.
The Kon Ran Internetdimensional/International/Internet Mafia/Militia (or possibly an opposing organization, if the KIM are the aggressors) created Armaggedist to train the population for the incoming dimensional flux. What's happening in Kon Ran is the first stage of a battle royale in which holes are ripped between dimensions. The PCs were supposed to be the first wave of the alien aggressors, but they were captured and the doctors were tasked with neutralizing them.
  • ...So Chinese Men in Black?
    • If the Men in Black started World of Warcraft to train people to deal with alien invasions, yes.

Variation on the Matrix theory: the doctors are the computer
Kwan is one of the three incarnations of the hive mind that sits at the center of the research facility in the college, constantly rerunning simulations of the events running up to the end of all civilization on earth in a desperate attempt to know how, if these few people had been different, the world might have been saved? (Kwan is the superego, clearly, and Owns is the id. The third is as-yet unknown.)
  • If we have an Id and a Superego, Nolan is probably the middleground Ego.

Dr. Owens is a bitch.
Seriously, why can no one see this!?

It's a demon.
A dancing demon! No, something isn't right there.
  • Some kid is dreamin' and we're all stuck inside his wacky Broadway nightmare.

It could be bunnies.
  • Magical bunnies.
    • Or maybe midgets.

The RNG is behind it all.
Why do you think its choices are so specific to our interests of late?
  • And furthermore, the RNG is Crysiana.

All the events of Kon Ran are caused by a wizard on a remote hill cackling madly and forcing various identities upon the populace.
This is the same wizard who cackled madly, yelling "THEY THOUGHT I WAS MAD TO GIVE THESE PEOPLE BREASTS!!!" during the sex change event.
  • This is also what happens when magicians are shorted five dollars. "OKAAAAAY?"

Kon Ran is the TARDIS
It's bigger on the inside than a TARDIS would be, and people from all over the multiverse are inside of it and going on journeys.

Time Lord Theory
The Doctor is a Time Lord.
  • Naaaaah, that was Jossed a while ago.

The Oppenheimers were behind the Incident.
Why else were so many of them affected? They clearly control the entire city anyway.
  • KIM is just the fancy way of referring to Kim Oppenheimer.

Related to the above, somebody put a hit on Oppenheimers.
Both parents of Jesse and Arthur Oppenheimer were killed in a car accident, as was Jesse's ex-wife. Coincidence?

Jesse Oppenheimer
is secretly a robot.I know this is pretty out there, guys, but just hear me out!
  • He made it through that zoo escape thing with hardly a scratch on him, even without any combat experience.
  • He's good with electronics.
  • He obviously understands neither romance nor the hotness of his neighbor
  • He participated in an MSTing of Space Journeys. All MST parodies must include at least one robot! It's some kind of code.
  • He hacked into the communicator's network with apparently no effort on his part, within a few days of Fay's accidental hacking which apparently inspired him.
The signs are all there, people!

Darnell
is secretly a [[spoiler: robotI think there's just as much evidence for this theory as there is for the above one. This character:
  • Also participated in the MST, as mentioned in the above WMG.
  • Has not shown any romantic interest in anyone, despite practically living with an attractive man
  • Is consistently loath to show emotions and seemingly has a hard time dealing with them in others; maybe it's because, as a robot, he doesn't have them but is good at faking them

Dr. Owens is behind the communicator break-in and the cuff malfunction.
Owens knew she'd be requesting to continue the close monitoring and travel restrictions; the failure of the systems is actually NOT related to the weird event the previous night. Because, other than one particular instance, the patients are strange but generally non-aggressive and clearly trying to cope, Owens worried that she couldn't push the restrictions past a court hearing. In order to demonstrate the need for continued monitoring, Owens sabotaged her own systems so she could show that the patients would act out the moment that things went haywire. She then posted and provoked the patients so that she could further prove that they are emotionally unstable.
  • What about Mechakara's/Jesse's actions against Liz/Ross? She couldn't have known about that...right?

Everyone's "real" identities are still alive somewhere.
and possibly in the pcs' "real" world.
  • And then they were told they were suffering from DPD. Oh the vicious cycle continues...

The patients are all really traitors/double agents.
All of the patients could have been KIM operatives who turned traitor towards the group and began to work for the city to take the KIM down from the inside. The "incident", meanwhile, was a scheme by KIM against them - to kill them all in revenge. And ironically, the only people really protecting them from the KIM are the doctors and KRIMP (why else would KRIMP be so on the patients?). Think about it: no one seems to want to reveal anything about the KIM or the "incident" to the patients, which we now know to have been instigated by KIM, for fear of causing them to "lapse", even though everyone wants them to recover their memories. And the bomb only seems to have affected the patients. There's no indication the "incident" actually affected anyone else but those specific people.

As for the false memories, it really could have been a side effect of the trauma of the "incident"; seeing people you counted as friends trying to horrifically kill you can be pretty traumatic.

Doctor Owens has a loved one either in a coma or with DPD.
It would explain her investment in the patients' case and her aggression towards the patients. Perhaps her anger is frustration at not being able to fix everything. Hell, her username when the game was originally going to start on Livejournal was "getbetterdammit."
  • Gainaxed hard. She herself has deliberately induced DPD.
  • Confirmed. She is married to Arthur Oppenheimer, who fell into a coma along with her brother in law, Jesse.

It really WAS all just a dream.
We don't like to think about it, there could very well be another explanation, but what if it really is as simple as the given premise; these people were sent into a coma by a terrorist bomb and now suffer DPD, thinking they're someone else?

It wasn't a dream. Everyone's DPD was deliberately induced.
It's now been confirmed that Lisa Owens/Karen Oppenheimer has had her memories tampered with. What if something happened during the Incident that the patients' true selves saw and the Viceroy didn't want known to the general public?
  • What good would it do the Viceroy to convince someone that they're a pony or a turtle though?
    • Because claiming or showing someone has a mental illness has always been among the arsenal of rulers who want to render someone a nonentity without killing them/fully disgracing them because they know too much or are a political nuisance, since mental illness was/is such a stigma for many people.

Dr. Nolan is secretly Samuel L. Jackson
And the reason he wasn't seen in the past was because he was still recovering from a certain airplane incident.

Fay is the girl Dr. Kwan saved five years ago.
That would explain the reason she's in Beijing and not Kon Ran right now.
  • Except that The mother and daughter were apparently both arrested five years ago and Fay's mentioned in her most recent post how controlling her mother is? And considering how close they were to killing Dr. Kwan just for treating the girl in question, I don't think that they are the same girl. In fact, given how KRIMP treats prisoners, it's likely that girl is dead along with her mother.
    • Maybe but everybody lies, or is at least hiding something when it comes to the non playable characters in this game. I wouldn't be surprised if Fay was also.
    • Maybe her mother is adoptive? Maybe she somehow escaped everything going on and has a new family now.
  • The girl Kwan treated had epilepsy, though, and yet here she is playing computer games. How big of a problem would a game like Armageddist be on that front?

KIM didn't attack the hospital in their most recent bombing because of Dr. Kwan
KIM's second-in-command was allegedly a friend of Dr. Kwan's family. And whether that friendship was genuine in the end, Kwan DID save his daughter. If he couldn't prevent the arrest, maybe he's at least returning the favor by keeping him safe.
  • Confirmed. It wasn't just a friend, it was his twin brother. And he's now the leader of the KIM!

The city of Kon Ran exists because the Viceroy wished to rule her own personal utopia.
Her "pet" is her own personal Incubator. We don't notice any Witches because we're all Muggles. And the reason that there's so many problems with DPD?
"When one person is granted happiness, another must suffer an equal amount."

All of the strange animals in Kon Ran were in comas, as well.
Originally presented as a theory by Princess Luna; after all, who's to say that Alice the Heartless doesn't look like a normal lap dog to the NPC populace? Neku getting a Dream Eater as a 'cat' only helps reinforce the idea. Unlike the PCs, though, they can't actually talk, so nobody knows any better.
  • Debunked. The animals are actually native to Kon Ran's world!

Dr. Nolan is Santa Claus.
Search your feelings. You know it to be true.
