The Simpsons Wrestling is a wrestling game based on The Simpsons for the PS1. The Excuse Plot is as follows: the city of Springfield is hosting a wrestling championship, and everyone is out to become the champion. The game is notable for featuring all of the original voice actors from the show, with dialogue provided by the actual writers.

    Playable Characters
  • Starting Roster: Homer Simpson, Bart Simpson, Lisa Simpson, Marge Simpson, Barney Gumble, Krusty the Clown, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Groundskeeper Willie
  • Unlockable: Bumblebee Man, Moe Szyslak, Professor Frink, Ned Flanders
  • Bosses: Mr. Burns & Waylon Smithers, Kang & Kodos
  • Other: Itchy, Scratchy

Tropes that apply to The Simpsons Wrestling:

  • A Winner Is You: Completing the Champion League merely gives you a congratulatory message with no further ending: "You have defended the world title! Congratulations!"
  • Adaptational Badass: Many of the cast display abilities they never did in the show. Apu knows karate, Marge is a deft hand with a frying pan and Ned Flanders can summon lightning.
  • Ash Face: Certain attacks like Moe's flaming Moes, Mr. Burns' nukes and Frink's robots turn the opponent's model black on hit.
  • Assist Character: Several characters can summon other characters to help in battle:
    • Marge can send Maggie to grab an opponent, slowing them down and preventing them from jumping or using circle attacks.
    • Bumblebee Man can send his pet chihuahua to bite opponents.
    • Smithers can release Blinky the fish to instantly knock enemies down and have Mr. Burns throw nukes from outside the ring.
    • Professor Frink can deploy exploding robots on the field.
  • Auto-Revive: Ned Flanders can revive himself for full health once per round.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Krusty uses a giant mallet for his combo ender and circle attack.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Groundskeeper Willie is the only character without a long-range attack. However, his rake grants him additional range to compensate, and he can drop tools on the ground to hurt opponents.
  • Damage Over Time: Barney can belch out a gas cloud that covers a section of the stage. The opponent takes damage for each second they spend inside the cloud.
  • Death or Glory Attack: The circle versions of each character's jump and rope attacks deal heavy damage and knock the opponent down on hit, but also cost a lot of energy and the attacker is knocked to the ground too, leaving them vulnerable if they miss.
  • Defeat Means Playable: Bumblebee Man, Moe, Professor Frink and Ned Flanders can only be unlocked by defeating them in the leagues.
  • Edible Ammunition: Krusty can throw pies, Apu can throw Squishees, Barney can throw beer glasses and Moe can throw flaming Moes.
  • Fighting Clown: Literally with Krusty the Clown and Bumblebee Man. Krusty is a clown who throws pies and uses a giant cartoon mallet, while the Bumblebee Man is a man dressed as a bee who can attack with his yoyo and send his chihuahua to bite opponents.
  • Frying Pan of Doom: Marge wields a frying pan as her melee weapon.
  • Home Stage: Each character has a stage they're guaranteed to be fought on in the league modes:
    • Power Plant for Homer.
    • Kwik-E-Mart for Bart and Apu.
    • Evergreen Terrace for Lisa, Marge and Flanders.
    • Downtown for Groundskeeper Willie and Professor Frink.
    • Krustylu Studios for Krusty and Bumblebee Man.
    • Barney's Bowlarama for Barney.
    • Moe's Tavern for Moe.
    • Mr. Burns' Mansion for Smithers. Smithers can only be played as here, and only as Player 2.
    • Spaceship for Kang. Kang can only be played as here, and only as Player 2.
    • Itchy 'N Scratchy for Itchy and Scratchy. Itchy and Scratchy can only be used there, and only against each other.
  • Man Bites Man: Lisa's circle attack is a command grab involving her biting her target's arm.
  • Musical Assassin: Lisa can play her saxophone to damage the opponent from afar.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Weaponized as a game mechanic: once a character collects all five letters of TAUNT, they can taunt the opponent with a one-liner. This stuns the opponent and makes the taunter invincible for a short time.
  • Shock and Awe: Flanders' circle attack calls upon God himself to smite the opponent with lightning.
  • Squashed Flat: Krusty's circle attack has him repeatedly smash his hammer downwards. Every time it hits the opponent, they get comically squashed flat and suffer reduced movement speed.
  • SNK Boss:
    • Smithers possesses ludicrously quick, high-damaging melee attacks, an Assist Character who can instantly knock anyone down in Blinky the fish, and a ridiculously powerful nuke attack (courtesy of Mr. Burns) that can come out at complete random.
    • Ned Flanders has fast melee combos, a projectile that homes in on enemies no matter where they are on the screen, an extremely strong lightning attack capable of depleting an entire health bar and can Auto-Revive once per round, meaning he essentially has twice as much health as any other character.
  • Stance System: By default, Homer starts out as a well-rounded fighter with a simple melee combo and a bowling ball projectile. However, if he completes his circle attack without being interrupted, Homer becomes larger, his attacks deal more damage and come out quicker, and his bowling balls are replaced with a spinning kick.
  • Voice for the Voiceless:
    • Kent Brockman counts pins for Itchy and Scratchy, who don't speak.
    • Smithers grunts but doesn't talk; Mr. Burns is the one who does pre-match intros, taunts and victory dialogue instead.
  • The Voiceless:
  • Would Hurt a Child: Despite their young ages, Bart and Lisa are as likely to take a beating in a match as any other character in the game.
