Video Game / Scarlet Melopoeia

Go To

One night, BF was invited by Skid to check out a seemingly abandoned shrine, with the latter claiming it's a portal that leads to "a cool place with lots of friends". Taking up on his offer, BF heads to the location the next day with GF to discover the isolated world of Gensokyo, with the first resident they meet (and rap against) being the shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei, with them also being wrapped up in an incident involving a mansion...

Scarlet Melopoeia is a Game Mod for Friday Night Funkin' made by Blusagi, featuring Touhou Project's setting, characters and songs. More specifically, its based off the sixth (first in terms of Canon) game in the series, The Embodiment Of Scarlet Devil.

The main had gone through a drastic change in presentation and songs come the 0.9 update. An even older build with a drastically different setup from the latest mod features Flandre Scarlet as the sole opponent, with this build being reintroduced in the latest mod page as a separate download.

Girls are preparing tropes, Please wait warmly:

  • Adaptational Name Change: Boyfriend and Girlfriend are given the Japanese names Kareshi and Kanojo.
  • Game Over:
    • Losing in "Lowest Vibes" cuts the song to black, followed by a mobile phone displaying the restart symbol.
    • Instead of simply getting blue-balled upon losing, Boyfriend outright vaporizes, complete with the "Pi-chun!" sound effect. Same goes for Reimu in her section, just with a white sphere hitbox in her center.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Reimu's health icon in the Alpha version, with its light-shaded purple hair and big red bow on top, is based on her PC-98 era design.
    • Plenty of the characters icons in the Alpha version, with the exception of the Freeplay characters, are designed after the popular Touhou merchandise: the "Fumo" style of plushies. One Freeplay character in 0.9 onward is straight up the a Fumo of Reimu, accompanied by a gif of Fumo Cirno spinning in the background.
  • Promoted to Playable:
    • Skid and Pump get the playable role in "Gensoumooru", singing for the Scarlet Sisters. Girlfriend also gets to sing as much as Boyfriend for her own songs.
    • Reimu shares the playable role with Kareshi with Rumia's arrival in "Spiritual Dusk". In the prior version, Reimu takes up singing herself in "Youkai Of The Dark," against the titular Youkai Rumia.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: In the Alpha build, upon dispersing the shadow bubble and unleashing Darkness Sign "Demarcation", Rumia starts sporting a glowing red glint in her eyes, with the song picking up in difficulty with its Warning Notes.
  • Sinister Silhouettes: How Flandre is depicted in her introduction of the original build Vs Flandre Scarlet. Downplayed, as while she is portrayed in a mysterious light upon first meeting BF and GF, in addition to being... Flandre Scarlet, she isn't portrayed as outright villainous or immediately dangerous.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": As a result of the Vs Flandre Scarlet build being from an early era where fans addressed the characters named after their relation to each-other with a "the" added, Boyfriend and Girlfriend address themselves as "The Boyfriend" and "The Girlfriend" upon introducing themselves to Flandre.
