What happened in this place?

Jisatsu is a horror game developed by Chilla's Art.

You are a young employee who works for a small film company, and your boss tasks you to check out an abandoned house for your next project, since that seems to be all the rage lately.

As you explore the abandoned house, you find some VHS tapes to play, which tell a gruesome story that's way more than you ever bargained for...

The game was released on December 15, 2023.

Examples from Jisatsu include:

  • Apocalyptic Log: The VHS tapes tell the story of a young boy and the house he lived in with his grandparents, and how it became abandoned.
  • Big Bad: The demon under the outhouse is responsible for slowly corrupting the boy in the tapes into spreading his influence and the vanishing of the previous occupants, and still haunts the abandoned house, trying to go after the protagonist.
  • Creepy Child: The boy from the video tapes does all sorts of horrifying things to appease the demon under the outhouse, all without a hint of strong emotion. It starts from dropping a dead bird into the hole, then the severed head of a carp, a doll adorned with hair from his grandmother's corpse, his grandfather's fingernails, and in the end, the butchered corpse of the protagonist.
  • Curiosity Killed the Cast: The protagonist's investigation of the abandoned house and the secrets it holds leads to his death in the end.
  • Dismembering the Body: This is the fate of the protagonist after the grandson tracked him down and killed him, for delivery to the demon.
  • Double-Meaning Title: 'Jisatsu' is the pronunciation for two Japanese words: a word for selfies, and a word for suicide.
  • Downer Ending: The protagonist uncovers the truth of what transpired in the abandoned house, and escapes as quickly as possible when an unknown assailant chases him. As he drives away, he eventually comes across a fallen tree blocking the road and tries to look for help... only to be caught and murdered by the assailant and dragged back into the house. His corpse is brutally butchered and stuffed into a bag by the unknown man, who drops it into a familiar hole... which reveals the man to be the young boy from the tapes, who continues to appease the demon even in the present.
  • Fingore: The demon under the outhouse requests the fingernails from the boy's grandfather who committed suicide in the bathtub. The game forces you to rip out the fingernails yourself, one by one.
  • Japanese Christian: The previous occupants of the house, judging from the Jesus portraits, the cross the grandfather brings out when he prays, the Mary and Joseph statues, the cross-marked graves underneath the house, and the crosses on the walls initially keeping the demon from spreading his influence into the house.
  • Looks Like Jesus: The grandson, in the present day. The irony is palpable.
  • Ominous Visual Glitch: Throughout the tapes, giant black bars censoring... something show up every now and then, which cause ear rape if you get too close. Eventually, they start showing up outside of the tapes. Only near the end do you learn they're covering up statues of Mary and Joseph... which is probably a bad indicator of how deeply the demon's corruption has spread into the house.
  • Religious Horror: There are multiple portraits of Jesus strewn all over the house, making the already frightening atmosphere of the place even more uncanny. And then the teleporting Mary and Joseph statues show up.
  • The Renfield: The boy recording the tapes quickly becomes this for the demon under the outhouse. He maintains the role as an adult.
  • The Stinger: There is an additional scene after the credits play: the boss and his subordinate watching the footage taken by the protagonist from the abandoned house. As the subordinate leaves to use the restroom, the boss follows suit only to find the subordinate dead on the ground... and then the grandson from the tapes reveals himself inside the locker staring straight at him.
  • Unseen Evil: We never see even a hint of the demon living under the outhouse, though his influence is very strongly felt.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To the nana825763 video My house walk-through, with a story centering around a decaying, abandoned old Japanese house where horrifying supernatural activity is happening and a madman lives with the moldering corpses of his grandparents. The grandfather's body is even found in the bathtub in both.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: The demon's speech is rendered this way in the English subtitles.
