This Video Game series contains examples of:

  • Anti Poopsocking: The iPad versions have an energy meter that drains with each hunt. If it reaches very low levels, then you have no choice but to leave the game and do something else for an hour or so.
  • Artificial Stupidity: In Deer Hunter 5: Tracking Trophies, because of a bad AI bug, bears and elk always spawn running and never stop. If not killed, they'll just keep going until they reach the edge of the map and despawn.
  • Bears Are Bad News: There are Black Bears, Brown Bears, Grizzly Bears, and Kodiak Bears. All of them will maul you if they get the chance.
  • Fooled by the Sound: Later entries give the player two devices for luring deer closer: 1) a horn that makes a noise similar to a deer grunt, and 2) a pair of antlers to rub together, which sounds like two bucks fighting over territory or does. If deer are within earshot, they will usually amble into the player's view within thirty seconds.
  • Instant Death Bullet: Shots to the vital organs result in instant death.
  • Invisibility: In Deer Hunter 5: Tracking Trophies, for some unknown reason, one map has a area with a shack next to a pond where deer may spawn invisible, but still making noise (and leaving hoof prints if snow is present). The game may also crash in or near this area.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: Alas, 2005 also has Chitals in Australia...
  • Panthera Awesome: Cougars are present in 5, and huntable.
  • RPG Elements: The iPad versions contain experience levels and experience points that you get from hunting. You get money, improved skills and different hunts for each level you achieve.
  • Stock Animal Behavior: Averted, since it's a hunting sim.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: Your more dangerous quarry will ignore the fact that most of their health has been chipped away by a non-lethal shot and keep coming for you when provoked.
  • Vein-o-Vision: Noctovisor shows heart and lungs of animals.
