Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles is a Video Game in the Assassin's Creed series set before Assassin's Creed. It was developed by Gameloft Bucharest, and published by Ubisoft.

The year is 1190 AD, and Altaïr has been assigned with a task by Al-Mualim. His mission: locate and collect an object called "The Chalice", which is said to be able to unite all factions and win The Third Crusade for whichever side is in possession of it. Altaïr understands that such a powerful relic cannot afford to fall into the wrong hands, least of all the Templars'. So, he sets off on his quest to find and destroy it.

The game was released on the Nintendo DS, Android, iOS, webOS, Symbian, Java ME, and Windows Phone. The game was released on February 5th, 2008.

Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles contains examples of:

  • Bloodless Carnage: Altaïr takes down many a Templar in his quest, and yet not one drop of blood is shed.
  • Catching Some Z's: Sleeping enemies have red Zs coming from them.
  • Checkpoint: These appear in the form of rings of light on the ground.
  • Counter-Attack: Present, though they will in turn be countered by the high-level enemies.
  • Crate Expectations: Not only are the crates present often enough, but moving them is necessary to solve some puzzles.
  • Die, Chair, Die!: Breaking pots will often reveal useful things.
  • Downer Ending: Altaïr is unable to save Adha, who is on a ship that is out of his reach by the time he defeats Basilisk. While he vows to rescue her at the very end of the game, one of his codex pages in Assassin's Creed II mentions she ended up getting murdered before he was able to save her.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: There are late-game missions where Altaïr needs to wear Templar uniforms in order to sabotage their quests.
  • In the Hood: Altaïr, natch.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Altaïr can torture certain Templars into giving up valuable information, though this is done through the "pressure point" minigame described below.
  • Kill It with Fire: In the levels that involve tar pits, you can lit the entire pit aflame by tossing a torch there, to the detriment of any guards who happened to stand in it.
  • Le Parkour: Like any Assassin's Creed game, this game has climbing up the sides of buildings.
  • Loads and Loads of Loading: The DS version had often received complaints about its long load times.
  • Minigame: The game contains its share. One involves removing keys from enemy bags (see Pickpocketing below), and others involve pressing pressure points on a guard's back to get them to yield to you.
  • Pickpocketing: On some enemies, Altaïr can perform a Minigame in which he has to extract a key from the enemy's bag. He must do so without touching anything else in the bag, or even the sides of the bag.
  • Prequel: The game is set before the first Assassin's Creed game.
  • Rare Candy: The blue orbs, which either boost Altaïr's health, or his attack power.
  • Spikes of Doom: Some levels contain spikes that are constantly retracting and jutting out. Touching them means instant death.
  • Wall Jump: One of Altaïr's moves is to jump upward between two walls.
