Alex's Caves is a Game Mod for Minecraft co-created by Alex_khaan, the creator of Alex's Mobs, and Noonyeyz, who also served as the mod's main artist.

It's a mod that adds, well, caves: 4 new cave biomes and 1 deep sea biome for Minecraft which are extremely rare, but have blocks, items, mobs, and other features unique to each biome. Ranging from the dark, foreboding Forlorn Hollows, to the radioactive Toxic Caves, each new biome is well worth the effort to seek out.

Alex's Caves is a big mod, and just like its predecessor each part of it has a purpose: there is little to no window dressing, and any block, mob, or item can be incredibly useful to players.

The mod is currently in Version 1.1, which added two new boss mobs: Luxtructosaurus in the Primordial Caves, and Tremorzilla to the Toxic Caves.

You can download the mod from Curseforge here, or from Modrinth here. Note that it requires Citadel, a library all of alex_khaan's mods use, to function.

Alex's Caves provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Heroism: In the Cthulhu Mythos, the Deep Ones, aside from making hybrids with the local humans, are Ambiguously Evil servants of Cthulhu and/or Dagon who make human sacrifices to their gods. Here, they're a more neutral civilization deep in the ocean that can either become hostile if you consistently attack them, or become allies if you trade with them using Pearls..
  • Animalistic Abomination: Forsaken are created when the Underzealots mistakenly sacrifice a Vesper instead of a Gloomoth. These are huge, six-limbed batlike abominations that are bosses in their own right, with a slew of deadly sonic attacks and can even transform themselves into darkness.
  • Dark Is Evil: The Forlorn Hollows are almost pitch black, and is the most overtly hostile and malevolent biome in the mod. Several mobs are the result of being summoned by an eldritch cult of Mole Men, are the eldritch cult of Mole Men, and the items you can craft or gain from here have a very sinister theme. Of course, once in the player's hand it's perfectly possible for the Opposite to become true.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The Abyssal Chasm is a dark biome with walls made of equally dark Abyssmarine, filled with vents that spew a thick black smoke and littered with whale skeletons.... the only hostile mobs here are Drowned and Mine Guardians with the rest being either neutral or passive.
  • Developer's Foresight: The Abyssal Chasm can spawn Blobfish, Frilled Sharks, Giant Squid and Comb Jellies if Alex's Mobs is installed.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Taming a Tremorsaurus is a difficult task that requires you to get a drop from mobs that have over 100 health and pine nuts that only have a 7.5% chance of dropping without modifiers, but the result is that you get a large Beast of Battle that can weaken mobs by roaring and shakes the ground by walking.
  • Expy: Magnetrons are one to the Golems from Mo'Creatures, being normally small mobs that use surrounding blocks to form a body when hostile.
  • Face of a Thug: Hullbreakers are terrifying predators twith More Teeth than the Osmond Family.... that is also completely neutral, and will only attack unprovoked if you are glowing or in a submarine with floodlights on, which is less active malice and more instinct.
  • Herbivores Are Friendly: PlayedWith in the Primordial Caves. Unlike the Tremorsaurus and Vallumraptors, neither the Relicheirus, Grottoceratops or Atlatitan will attack you, but being neutral mobs they will retaliate if you attack them.
    • Averted with Luxtructosaurus, who is intended to be hostile, though is neutral due to bugs.
  • Humanoid Abomination: A group of four or more Underzealots in the Forlorn Hollows can sacrifice a Gloomoth to summon a Watcher, a humanoid thing with the Gloomoth's wings for its face. They're capable of forcing players to see through their eyes by possessing them.
  • Lost World: The theme for the Primordial Caves. Dinosaurs, prehistoric trees, and abandoned caveman houses ahoy!
  • Nuke 'em: The Nucleeper, a variant of the Creeper found in the Toxic Caves. Rather than immediately explode, it will activated a warning siren and begin charging; You have until the head fully closes to kill it before it's nuclear payload is set off. The player themselves can also craft and set off nuclear bombs.
  • Rent-a-Zilla: Tremorzilla.
  • Religion of Evil: The Underzealots in the Forlorn Hollows are an entire race of cultists. Their robes and congregations aren't just for show, either, as they can conduct eldritch rituals to transform Gloomoths into Watchers. However, due to their poor eyesight, they can sometimes accidentally catch and sacrifice a Vesper, turning it into an even deadlier Forsaken.
  • Token Good Teammate: Well, not exactly good due to being an animal but Raycats are the only undead to be passive mobs, even being tamable with Radgills.
  • Underground Monkey: There are quite a few biome specific variants of vanilla mobs.
    • Ferrouslimes are magnetic slimes that float.
    • Nucleepers are larger, nuclear variants of regular Creepers that spawn in Toxic Caves. Unlike their smaller cousins, they can't stop charging to explode.
    • Mine Guardians are basically creepers in metallic guardian shells that are anchored to the seafloor.
