• Backed by the Pentagon: According to Akira Kurosawa, the castle set's construction was aided by the personnel of a nearby US Marine Corps base.
• Completely Different Title: The Japanese title is Spider Web Castle, but it was distributed in English-speaking markets and is still referred to in English by the catchier Throne of Blood.
• Enforced Method Acting: The arrows striking the wall beside Washizu in the final scene were fired by real archers placed just off-camera. Toshiro Mifune's look of terror is not entirely feigned. Pay attention to Mifune's arm movements in the scene — he used these movements to telegraph to the archers which way he was about to move so that they would fire in the opposite direction.
