Trivia / The Banana Splits

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • In the series, the voice actors did a number of characters such as Paul Winchell who did Fleegle, Cuckoo Clock and Goofy Gopher.
    • The Banana Splits in Hocus Pocus Park has Paul Winchell as Fleegle and a Tree, Daws Butler as Bingo and an Octopus, Don Messick as Drooper (in two scenes) and a dragon and Howard Morris as Hocus and Pocus.
    • Keith Scott does Fleegle and Bingo in the 2008 revival.
  • Creator Backlash: Keith Scott didn't enjoy doing Fleegle and Bingo for the 2008 reboot as he didn't have any warm feelings toward the series and didn't know the duo well. He's afraid it's not one of his better efforts.
  • Edited for Syndication: The show was originally called The Banana Splits Adventure Hour, and as such was an hour long, but after the original run ended, the show was rebroadcasted as "The Banana Splits and Friends Show" which took the original hour long episodes and cutting them in half, getting two episodes out of it.
    • The original hour long episodes followed a sort of "Three Shorts" format, with the Arabian Knights and Three Musketeer cartoon segments bookending a double length Danger Island chapter, with songs and sketches with the Splits appearing interspersed throughout.
    • When the show was cut down to a half hour, it only featured one of the two cartoons, which alternated between shows and took one of the two part Danger Island stories and spread them out between two episodes, plus every other show had a song number in it.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The first season was released on DVD in the UK, but they're the syndicated half-hour versions.
  • Missing Episode: The entire second season hasn't been seen since 1969. The reruns in syndication and on Cartoon Network only featured the first season.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • In two scenes in The Banana Splits in Hocus Pocus Park (when the Splits find Hocus and Pocus who have turned into a bowling ball and bowling pins and when the Splits are trying to pole vault into the Witch's castle), Drooper is voiced by Don Messick instead of Allan Melvin.
    • The 2008 revival has Keith Scott as Fleegle and Bingo. Drooper, Banana Vac and Cuckoo Clock have different voice actors as well.
  • The Red Stapler: Don't tell me you didn't want a six-wheeled amphibious vehicle of your own as a kid.
