YMMV / The Banana Splits

Go To

  • Cult Classic: Notably, it really only started to gain popularity after reruns aired.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: The first season of the show was a hit. The second season though was not as well-received. While new segments were done, nothing else changed, such as the sets. Some argued that kids would turn it on and notice it was still the same show.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Uh oh, Chongo!"
  • Periphery Demographic: The series has been gaining a fandom consisting of young Gen Z kids, with many of them carrying over from Five Nights at Freddy's. Despite the similarities between FNAF and the 2019 film, they hate the 2019 movie for making the Splits evil. They only like the original series.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: Most of Pop Cop sounds a lot like certain parts of Cliff Nobles and Co.'s The Horse.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: It's so sixties it hurts.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • In one episode the Splits enthusiastically celebrate the delights of a parade...of Confederate soldier re-enactors. Nowadays, with the controversy over displaying Confederate flags and statues of Confederate soldiers, this episode would never be made.
    • The costumes and dancing of the "Sour Grapes" girls (young girls who wear miniskirts and go-go boots) now seem hugely inappropriate with increasing awareness of child sexual exploitation.
    • The three cannibal tribes from the Danger Island segments were pretty racist, even for 1969. They've only aged more poorly from there.
