- Artist Disillusionment: Greenio has condemned the target audience for the tapes (followers of the "iceberg" rumors), citing said following undergoing severe decay in the production of related videos after the rumors took off, barring the Lighter and Softer series Breaking the Barrier by Marionova64.
- Creator Backlash:
- A few days after the series officially ended, Greenio judged all nine tapes using a tier list. 03.11.97 is considered as being so utterly low in quality compared to the other tapes that it has its own section, most likely due to it merely consisting of "trying to unlock Luigi but Mario dies instead" and nothing else.
- The same list also considers 11.05.96 and 11.15.95 to be boring at best, the former likely due to focusing on the Wario Apparition, a Discredited Meme outside of parody edits, and the latter due to its main twist being mostly plain exposition.
- Tapes 1, 2, and 5 were moved from the main playlist to a different one labled “DECLASSIFIED: The Lost Tapes”. This is because Greenio retconned them out of the main narrative due to believing they didn't really fit the main narrative. (Although 5 later got reinstated, with 12 getting removed in turn.)
- Steve and the exposition that accompanies him at the end of 07.29.95 were also stricken from canon, likely to trim the fat (aside from an explanation for the Arc Words "it's time to wake up," much of his exposition is relatively inconsequential without any follow-up) in the same manner as the first, second, and fifth tapes. Unlike what occurred with 11.15.95, Greenio merely removed the monologue from the uploaded video instead of taking it down and reuploading it.
- Downplayed: In May of 2023, Greenio had edited out the ending portion of “Genesis” where the AI repeatedly mumbles the words "number nine" to distorted music as it awakens in order to have the series “[make] a tiny bit more sense now”.
- Creator Breakdown:
- A good chunk of memes uploaded to Greenio's Twitter following the series' conclusion, which play the circumstances of the tapes for laughs (including several images where the AI, using its Textureless Mario Anomaly avatar is depicted as an aloof goofball that Mario and Luigi poke fun at rather than its more serious situation in the tapes), were at least partially out of their Magnum Opus Dissonance for the series.
- The reintroduction of the AI in season 2 despite initial claims that season 2 represented a Genre Shift from horror to realism was the result of caving into popular demand and the inability for the community to remove itself from the iceberg or react well to criticizing it, something Greenio has frequently mentioned negatively impacting her outlook on the tapes as part of her Artist Disillusionment and Magnum Opus Dissonance.
- Defictionalization: The maps used for 07.29.95 are available for download (mentally-damaged AI guiding the player not included), and can be patched into level IDs 06 and 26 on the real game's ROM with the appropriate program.
- Magnum Opus Dissonance: Greenio has admitted she doesn't consider the tapes nearly as much of one as the fans do, mostly due to the circumstances of its creation involving a bandwagon with the 7/29/1995 build rumors.
- Missing Trailer Scene: "Epilogue" has several shots in its trailer that do not appear in the actual video:
- Stanley as the SGI Mario model shooting a Death Glare at the camera.
- An ink-stained document that appears to be describing Stanley's algorithms, with the words "IT CAN FEEL" prominently shown.note
- A white Mario model representing Stanley watching the previous episodes and grovelling in despair.
- Orphaned Reference: Sort-of: "Epilogue" opens on Steve informing Bill that the Automatic Enhancer has been deleted from the game, and that half of the levels that were made got deleted in turn. In early versions of "Genesis", it would have been explicitly stated this would have happened if the Enhancer were removed.
- What Could Have Been:
- 11.15.95 was meant to have a more smooth transition to The Reveal near the end, but was scrapped in favor of the Hostile Show Takeover used in the current tape. Likewise, it originally consisted of rough storyboards along with the incomplete promo tape footage. Greenio quickly grew to hate the end result, and replaced this version with one consisting of script images.
- 12.20.95 was meant to be the sixth tape, but was pulled ahead to June 23rd, 2020 - the anniversary of Super Mario 64.
- Similarly, as documented on her Twitter, 07.29.95 had such a hard time in production that it missed its intended release date of July 29th, 2020.
- "Beta Bob-omb Battlefield" went through two separate revisions before becoming the final version currently uploaded on YouTube. Both had completely different narratives for the mission depicted in the footage independent of previous events, with the second being a much shorter Attract Mode reel, but still ended with the yellow switch being pressed, the game crashing, and the Freeze-Frame Bonus of the Textureless Mario Anomaly. The final version instead opts for a subtle Call-Back to the events of 09.02.97.
- "Promo show" almost had an ending similar to 11.15.95 and the retconned ending of 07.29.95 in which the AI would speak using a text-to-speech program (specifically SAM, which is most famously used as the Synthetic Voice Actor in FAITH: The Unholy Trinity.) It was cut for the same reason 07.29.95's monologue was removed, being an info dump that runs contrary to the theme of mystery present in the tapes.
- Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things:
- The comments section for 09.02.97 was disabled due to complaints about the Half-Life 2 sound effects in the end dragging on for too long.
- Greenio has stated that due to the fandom's tendency to demand additional playability from them (with precedent from the mixed reception to the release of Breaking The Barrier's assets), the sets for each individual video (sans the fourth floor from 07.29.95) will not be released, as they are not meant to be "playable" in a conventional sense.
- Word of Gay: In a YouTube community post celebrating Pride Month 2023, Greenio revealed that Stanley is non-binary.
- Word of God: Greenio has clarified that no one in-game except for Stanley is alive (whether through technological or supernatural means), at least not in the traditional sense.
