- Acting for Two: Artie and Prince Charming are both voiced by James Arnold Taylor in the tie-in game, and end up talking to each other during the final battle.
- B-Team Sequel: The first two films had a few different co-directors, but had Andrew Adamson among them for both films. Here, Chris Miller directs the film, while Adamson was busy making The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe at the time of this film's production, though Adamson is still credited for its story.
- Celebrity Voice Actor: Justin Timberlake provides the voicework for Artie. Aside from Timberlake, the new characters are voiced by Eric Idle, Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Amy Sedaris, Cheri Oteri, Susanne Blakeslee, and John Krasinski.
- Early Draft Tie-In: The tie-in game features a section focusing on Artie, Shrek and Donkey going on a quest to find the Holy Grail. This is based off a deleted subplot that didn't make it into the finished movie, explaining why nothing of the sort actually happened there.
- Kids' Meal Toy: McDonald's had two Happy Meal promotions. The first was a set of ten talking figures released during the film's theatrical run; Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots, Gingy, Arthur, a Dronkey, Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia. The second was a set of eight super deformed figures released during the 2007 holiday season; Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, Puss in Boots, Dragon, Gingy, Pinocchio, and Fergus.
- The Original Darrin: Two for the tie-in game:
- After being darrin-ed by Michael J. Gough for the Shrek 2 game, John Cleese returns to voice King Harold for the game based on the third movie.
- Conrad Vernon reprises his role as Gingy after being replaced with James Arnold Taylor.
- The Other Darrin:
- In addition to Shrek, Donkey, Puss, Fiona and Prince Charming being voiced by their actors from the Shrek 2 game, Artie is voiced by James Arnold Taylor (replacing Justin Timberlake), Merlin by Jon Curry (replacing Eric Idle) and Sleeping Beauty by Erin Matthews (replacing Cheri Oteri).
- The Brazilian Portuguese dub has Mauro Ramos as Donkey due to Bussunda's sudden passing in 2006.
- In the German dub, Dennis Schmidt-Foß voices Donkey due to Randolf Kronberg's 2007 death.
- In the Italian dub, Puss in Boots changed voice actors from Massimo Rossi to Antonio Banderas.
- Role Reprise: John Cleese, Conrad Vernon, Cody Cameron, Susanne Blakeslee and Tom McGrath reprise their respective roles as King Harold, Gingy, Pinocchio, the Evil Queen and Skipper for the tie-in game.
- Spoiled by the Merchandise: Plush toys of Shrek and Fiona's triplets were in stores and on shelves at various different retailers long before the release of Shrek the Third, in which Fiona breaks the news to Shrek that she's pregnant.
