Trivia / Robin Hood (2018)

• Box Office Bomb: It didn't even crack $10 million in its opening weekend against a $100 million budget, and only avoided the title of "biggest bomb of 2018" due to the far more catastrophic failure of Mortal Engines.
• Creator Backlash: In an interview with Variety, Taron Egerton gave some pretty scathing critiques of the film, hinting that the final product is nothing like the original script.
  It was absolutely not the movie that I signed up to make. It was pitched to me in a different way. I think it was made by committee and I think it lost its vision. I wasn’t very happy on set. I didn’t have a very happy time making it.
• Dueling Works: Came out the same year as Robin Hood: The Rebellion, starring Kristian Nairn (Hodor in Game of Thrones) and BRIAN BLESSED (Robin's father in Prince of Thieves, amusingly), which had a much lower budget and got even more panned.
• Dyeing for Your Art: The cast trained in archery with (self-proclaimed and highly criticized)Danish archery expert Lars Andersen.
• Fake Brit: Marian is played by Irish Eve Hewson and Sherrif is played by Australian Ben Mendelsohn.
• Fake Nationality: Little John, a Saudi Arabian, is played by African American Jamie Foxx.
• Follow the Leader: Robin's fighting style with his bow is obviously trying to copy John Wick in a medieval context.
• Late Export for You: In stark contrast with the rest of the world, Japan got this movie in January 2020 as a home video release.
• Star-Derailing Role: Whatever momentum Taron Egerton's movie career had prior this film was instantly gone. If not for the fact that he was already involved in making Rocketman (2019) when Hood dropped, that would be it, with him being relegated to voice acting and streaming media ever since.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Nicholas Hoult, Jack Huston and Dylan O'Brien auditioned for Robin Hood.
  • Gugu Mbatha Raw was considered for Maid Marian.
• Working Title: Was originally titled Robin Hood: Origin. Curiously enough, in Japan it was renamed as Hood: The Origin.
