What Could Have Been: This game was co-developed by Capcom and was more-or-less initially designed to be a Beat 'em Up with guns. More specifically it was to be something of a Spiritual Successor to Capcom's NES title Gunsmoke. Some of these elements can be seen in the final version, particularly earliy in the game as entire levels are based around the three bounties Red has to hunt down, each with very distinctive design and weapon of choice, much like the orignal Gunsmoke. Capcom artist Akiman provided the character designs. Earlier builds had supernatural aspects and crazy weapons, but Capcom dropped it, and Rockstar revised it. Now that Rockstar is in complete control of the property, the sequel has become a Wide Open Sandbox.
