Trivia / Red Dead Revolver

Go To

  • Saved from Development Hell: The game was initially co-developed by Capcom and Angel Studios, but a lack of progress on the game over three years led to Capcom losing faith in it. After Take-Two bought Angel Studios and renamed them Rockstar San Diego, Rockstar took an interest in the game and Capcom agreed to let Rockstar take it over. (Capcom did co-publish the game with Rockstar in Japan when the game was released to Japanese audiences in 2005.)
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The game was initially co-developed by Capcom and was more-or-less designed to be a Beat 'em Up with guns, as something of a Spiritual Successor to Capcom's NES title Gunsmoke. Capcom artist Akiman provided the character designs. The plot also had supernatural aspects, with Red being an undead gunslinger out to avenge his family. When Rockstar took over the project, the game and plot was quickly reworked to be more grounded.
    • Early builds of the game handled aiming and targeting quite differently, using a lock-on system similar to Panzer Dragoon and Dead to Rights. When Rockstar took over the project, aiming and targeting were changed to a more traditional Third-Person Shooter system with ability to play as different characters influenced by Freedom Fighters, though this unconventional method would live on as part of the "Dead Eye" gameplay mechanic.
