Trivia / Pucca

Go To

  • Adored by the Network: The show was infamous for this in Latin America. When it premiered back in 2006 on Jetix, it seems Pucca was in a mission to take over the channel. The weekday schedule was pretty much Pucca and Fairly Odd Parents by the end of the year, more and more weekend specials were dedicated to Pucca, and many series (like Sonic X, Shaman King, Kirby, Battle B-Daman and Code Lyoko) were removed without warning from the channel to make more room for Pucca. Hell, it was one of the few series that survided the Jetix to Disney XD transition from 2009 and it wasn't removed from the channel until 2017!! Pretty incredible for a cartoon that was never meant to last more than one season.
  • Channel Hop: The original series aired on Toon Disney's Jetix block in the US and internationally on the Jetix channels. The third season, produced without Disney's involvement, has aired on South Korea's MBC, who also aired the original series, as well as several other channels such as Discovery Kids in Latin American territories.
    • Disney's distribution rights to the series lapsed at the end of 2018, and Vooz soon assigned the Spanish-based Planeta Group to handle worldwide distribution, including Pucca: Love Recipe. A deal seems to have been made somewhere down the line, as Love Recipe is finally streaming on Netflix.
  • Fandom Life Cycle: The franchise is a firm Stage 5 in its home country of South Korea, and the titular character is seen everywhere in marketing. Outside of South Korea, the Animated Adaptation by Jetix is a Stage 4 in Europe and Latin America and a Stage 2 or 3 everywhere else. The Soft Reboot of the franchise, Pucca: Love Recipe is slowly bringing the franchise to Stage X internationally.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Jetix Europe licensed the series to Shout! Factory to release five DVD compilations. While they all contain the first season in its entirety, only a few second-season segments were released on the fifth compilation, leaving the rest of the season in limbo. This is also the only way you can watch the series now, meaning that the high-definition versions have only ever been seen on television. The rest of the series is scattered online
    • This also seems to be the case with the original animated shorts, as the Vooz website doesn't seem to be accessible to US servers. In that vein, with the discontinuation of Flash, one wouldn't be able to see the shorts even if you could get the site to work.
  • Live on Stage!: There was a stage show titled Pucca LIVE! that only toured Latin America.
  • No Export for You: There's quite a few books that never made it outside of Korea. One notable one was a comic adaptation about Pucca and her friends traveling around the world, and it was never released in English. Ironically enough, it was translated into Spanish, French, German, and Chinese.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: There was a pretty popular myth that an unreleased episode featured Garu's younger brother Gura coming to Sooga. The potential Fanfic Fuel made many latch onto the idea to the point where Gura, who doesn't actually exist, has plenty of fan art.
  • The Other Darrin: With the exception of Richard Newman as Master Soo, Love Recipe has none of the cast of the first two seasons involved. The first seasons' cast was stationed in Canada, the cast of Love Recipe is located in California.
  • Screwed by the Network: The TV series produced by Studio B, Jetix Europe and Disney was never intended to last beyond a season, but the show's massive popularity overseas led to Jetix Europe and Toon Disney (who aired the series on their Jetix block) ordering a second season. Toon Disney proceeded not to promote the series as extensively as the first season, resulting in a ratings drop and cancellation before the network rebranded as Disney XD.
  • You Sound Familiar: In Love Recipe, Yongwoo Shin was recast from Abyo to Garu.
