Trivia / Metropolis (2023)

Go To

In General

  • The Danza:
    • The newscasters in "Oh No." are named Ace and Lynx like their respective voice actors (Though the former is credited as Corndni).
    • In "Terrors And Fables Of The Horrible City Of Cityplace", Banana is voiced by Bana although they are credited as "AintEvenChillin" in the film festival.
  • Deleted Scene: There was an alternate scene in "Failed Heist" where Wheelchair couldn't cut open the display case with the saw since it was made of glass so Lime devise a new strategy of beating up the guards. When Wheelchair asked how they are gonna do that without weapons, Lime confidently says with their fists all the while raising up his leg as he doesn't have arms. He immediately tells a smirking Wheelchair to zip it due to realising the Irony.
  • Shrug of God: When asked about Filmy, legotd61 said he has no future plans for them but did play around with the idea that they could appear in subsequent screenings as a recurring Mascot.
Question: "How did you come up with Filmy and are they the official Mascot of the festival?"
legotd61: "Just kinda on the spot. No real special story lol. I don't really have a mascot in mind. They could be one in the future?"
  • Throw It In!: Folder's voice actor, pogdogbytes, did not intend for them to sound flirty but decided to stick with it, making Folder sound like they either had a crush on Tie or is a Shipper on Deck for him and Cranberry.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • "In The Metropolis": The original story was about a team of five superheroes (Including Bolt, Sparkles and Byte) saving the city from a power outage but due to the sheer number of characters, it was cut down to the three aforementioned and turned Byte into the antagonist. However, the remaining two heroes will be featured in the sequel.
    • "Magical Malfunction":
      • The group accidentally made an entirely different concept days before the theme was dropped and had to quickly came up with another one afterward. It was initially a pilot, later titled "Aurora Polaris", about Polar the wrench living in a town called Frosthaven whose job is to occasionally check the barrier that keeps out all the winter in the world so grass fields will stay green forever for Object Show competitions.
      • Sundew's tendrils were supposed to be at the front but foxlias griffin thought it was better at the back, causing everyone to follow suit for consistency.
      • Originally, Sundew was going to have a pretty depressing line but it wasn't storyboarded then the audio editor forgot to put it in and thus there was no voice-acting for the line at all.
      • There was supposed to be a scene after the Fade to White where Glass Shard reassures Sundew about the whole mess isn't their fault before showing them the way down by elevator but it didn't make the cut due to time constraints.
    • "Disarray": The building that comes alive at the end of the short had a scarier nightmare face as seen in the initial concept art but was made more family-friendly. This would probably explain why everyone was screaming and running in terror at the sight of it in the final cut.
    • "malaware.exe": The Pom Brothers were going transform in a puff of smoke to reveal a Super Mode best described as a kangaroo-fox hybrid but was cut for time.
    • "The Seedlings 2: Home Sweet Home": Acorn and Seedo's Relationship Upgrade was more blatant when they sealed it with a kiss at the end but was scrapped for another scene with Toad (Bad choice if you ask the viewers).
    • "Tale of Two Cities": The character concept art showed that Carrot was initially armless while Tomato has arms when it became the other way in the finalised short. Additionally, Tomato also had buck teeth.
    • "Opposites Attract":
      • One of the initial pitches was a detective story that was vetoed almost immediately and there wasn't anything much about the idea other than a character concept page.
      • Grandpa Fern had a leaf beard that was scrapped before the final cut.
    • "My Own Two Eyes":
      • At first, Beepdoot had teal eyes which later switched out to light orange ones since "it looked awful".
      • The music was supposed to be a major role in the short but was cut down to only a single track after the group's composer got sick.
      • Beepdoot's creator (Created by Basil) once played a role in the short before getting scrapped.
      • Speaking of the short having two characters, one of the plots had two objects on a subway.
    • "Watch Out": The ending was envisioned for Pitch to scold and yell at Bin for stealing their watch before leaving and walking away from the colourful part of the city in the credits.
    • "Inanimate NewsChannel": CubenRocks, for some reason, promised to release a death metal album if the film was in the top three. He didn't receive any donation for his short and that album never saw the light of day.
  • Word of Gay:
    • In "Magical Malfunction", RainbowServal confirmed Sundew is non-binary while Glass Shard identifies as Objectum which the attraction to inanimate objects as opposed to Animate Inanimate Objects (Kind of paradoxical to think about).
    • TMOJ Official had stated that Wrench is pansexual in "FRAGMENTS".
    • According to pogdogbytes, the two leads in "Opposites Attract" are both non-binary with Tie going by "They/He" pronouns and Cranberry with "They/It/She".
  • Word of God:
    • A sequel for "Magical Malfunction" was not planned but had it been made, it will be about Glass Shard's vacation of just sleeping for days on end. However, a director's cut of the short is underway with the raw audio and storyboards.
    • Because of how well-received his short was as well as placing third in the film festival, TMOJ Official decided to make a series of "FRAGMENTS" where it had left off.
    • In "My Own Two Eyes", the poster that blows into Beepdoot's face reads "TIOSC" which references the group's future project that hasn't been publicized yet.
  • Working Title:
    • For "Magical Malfunction", the group scrambled to come up with names such as "Sundew's Disastrous First Day", "Cosmic Nexus Corporation" and "Magical Malfunction at Cosmic Nexus Corporation" before finally settling on the current title during the last few hours of the deadline.
    • "My Own Two Eyes" was formerly called "Synthesia" but was changed due to not fitting with the plot.
    • "Watch Out" used to go by "Thief!" until that was changed with how the ending went and for that Double-Meaning Title and pun.
  • Write What You Know: In "Opposites Attract", pogdogbytes based Cranberry and Grandpa Fern off themself and their dad respectively while rosehip puree, Cranberry's gift, is something their dad makes for them.
