- Follow the Leader: The first game bears a lot of resemblance to Lunar: The Silver Star, which came out a year earlier.
- Franchise Killer: Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals sold way below Square Enix's expectations, barely shipping over 100,000 copies in the west. With no news of a new game in sight and barely any rereleases of prior games since then, the franchise is basically dead in the water.
- Dummied Out: The Lufia series is quite known among data-mining circles for their copious amounts of unused content. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals and Lufia: The Ruins of Lore both have very robust debug modes that are still accessible via cheat codes, and the former even has an early prototype that's quite well documented.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: All games in the series are long out-of-print, and other than The Legend Returns on Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, none of them have ever been re-released.
