  • Cash-Cow Franchise: At least until the bottom fell out of the adventure game market in the mid-late '90s, taking Sierra with it. It typically got first dibs on any new technology as a result, which could be either a blessing or a curse depending on the game.
  • Creator Backlash: Roberta Williams thought most of the PC ports of Wizard and the Princess after the Apple II original were "atrocious", mostly due to the color palettes they were stuck with. They tried to rectify this with the Commodore 64 port, which had colors closer to the original.
  • The Other Darrin: Each member of the Royal House of Daventry has had at least more than one voice actor. Graham (Josh Mandel in KQV, KQVI, and the AGI fan remakes, Danny Delk in unused audio from KQVII, Daran Norris in Mask of Eternity, Christopher Lloyd and Josh Keaton in KQ2015), Alexander (Barry T. Smith in KQV, Robby Benson in KQVI, Alexander Polinsky (young Alex) and Rick Pasqualone (adult Alex) in KQ2015), Valanice (Sheryl Bernstein in KQVI, Carol Bach y Rita in KQVII, Kath Soucie in KQ2015), and Rosella (Diana Wilson in KQV, Bernstein in KQVI, Maureen McVerry in KQVII, Cherami Leigh (young Rosella) and Kari Wahlgren (adult Rosella) in KQ2015). Cassima can also count as a new member of Graham's family, since she is voiced by Dianah Pressley in KQV, and Louise "Stevie" Vallance in KQVI.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Sierra was planning remakes for the rest of the early King's Quest games, but the negative reaction from the fanbase to the King's Quest I remake caused them to reconsider. That didn't stop them from doing remakes of other first installments of their popular series, including Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry.
    • At least two studios were planning on creating a Revival of the series in the 2010s:
      • Silicon Knights did some work, but due to their ill-fated lawsuit with Epic Games at the time, the furthest they got was a prototype.
      • Telltale Games was planning on an episodic entry, and even got some advice from Roberta Williams as to how to proceed, but rights complications prevented them from going through with it.

The books provide examples of:

  • Approval of God: At times the official canon makes references to material from the books, in manuals and hintbooks, some of the King's Quest Collections, the King's Quest trivia game "King's Questions", and Sierra's Interaction Magazine. The manual for KQ6 even utilizes Derek Karlavaegen as the author of that manual. Roberta Williams has also endorsed The Silver Lining and Kings Quest (2015).
