These page is for tropes related specifically to Hatsune Miku. For trivia related to Vocaloid as a whole and the other Crypton voicebanks, go here.

  • Cash-Cow Franchise: While this applies to VOCALOID and the Cryptons in general, Hatsune Miku is the center of it all, as she was the most profitable VOCALOID to ever be released. A majority of VOCALOID-related merchandise is of her, from figures to nendoroids, to accessories, to clothing, to unofficial manga in which she is the main focus. She's even the center of various video games, concerts and collaborations with other franchises with her fellow Cryptons mainly being along for the ride.
  • Colbert Bump: Using her voice bank in songs has proven to be a good method of getting attention as a producer, especially if the algorithm favors you. As well, a number of producers have gone on to have massive success after their venture into the music scene with Miku.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: She's been used to portray male and female characters alike. A famous example of this is in "Ren'ai Saiban", a song by 40mP where it is sung from the perspective of a boy trying to win back his girlfriend's heart. Interestingly, the girlfriend in question looks like Miku, but she doesn't have any singing lines.
  • Defictionalization: Japanese drink manufacturer ITO EN had once made a real life version of Miku's vegatable juice featured in "PoPiPo" back in 2012.
  • Follow the Leader: A number of voicebanks, utauloids, and general original characters have taken design cues from her. The most notable (and officially acknowledged) example being UTAU's Kasane Teto.
  • Fountain of Expies: Because of her distinctive character design, various lookalikes spawned from her, including Ene from Kagerou Project (which began as a series of Vocaloid songs) and Sona from League of Legends. Likewise, due to the memetic nature of her design, it is fairly common for characters with green, blue, or turquoise hair to be likened to Hatsune Miku, even if their characters aren't officially said to have been inspired by her.
  • Licensed Game: The Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series, Project SEKAI, TAP WONDER, among others.
  • The Merch: She has the most merch of any VOCALOID, ranging from figures to clothing. As well, she currently holds the record for the most Nendoroids of a single character, at over 50 nendoroids and counting.
  • Newbie Boom: To say Vocaloid received a boom upon her release is the understatement of the century. In years prior, Vocaloid was rather niche and while it wasn't a failure, it struggled to attract a larger audience. However, this all changed when Hatsune Miku arrived in 2007, as she and the early success of her videos would cause Vocaloid as a whole to receive a massive surge in popularity and become known in the mainstream after being a niche product years prior. It helps that Hatsune Miku came out at a time by which the internet and video sharing sites like NicoNicoDouga and YouTube were truly starting to take off, which also played a large factor in Vocaloid's boom in popularity.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Concept art of her V2 revealed that a half-up ponytail version of Miku was almost considered before they went with the more iconic turquoise twin tail design. A Nendoroid based on this initial design was released in 2021, titled "Hatsune Miku: if Ver.".
    • Hatsune Miku was planned to perform at Coachella 2020, until it got cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
