- All-Star Cast: Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, and Marion Cotillard all play large roles. On top of that, there's Demetri Martin, Bryan Cranston, John Hawkes, Enrico Colantoni, Sanaa Lathan, Monique Gabriela Curnen and Elliott Gould.
- Billing Displacement: Gwyneth Paltrow, who retains the first-billed credit in the film, yet only appears for 10 minutes at the beginning, in some photos, and (via flashback) the final ten seconds of the film.
- Defictionalization: Of a sort - during the COVID-19 outbreak (of which there were plenty of comparisons to this movie's fictional outbreak), Steven Soderbergh wound up leading the Directors' Guild project to assess COVID-19's effect on the movie industry and when to reopen.
- Doing It for the Art: Most of the main cast took very little pay to be in the movie. Gwyneth Paltrow worked basically for free and shot her scenes in less than 3 days.
- Fake American:
- English actress Kate Winslet and English-American actress Jennifer Ehle both sport Midwestern accents for their individual roles.
- English Jude Law plays the American Krumwiede, but seems to be rocking something like an Australian accent.
- Fake Nationality: French Marion Cotillard plays Dr. Orantes, who is Swiss, but she didn't really need to change her accent for it.
- Hide Your Pregnancy: Marion Cotillard was six months pregnant when she finished shooting her scenes.
- Production Posse: The three leads from The Talented Mr. Ripley all have leading roles in this film, although only two of them actually interact. This also marks the third film starring Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow (and the first in which they are not romantically involved).
- What Could Have Been: Jennifer Connelly was considered for the role of Beth Emhoff.
