Trivia / Austin & Ally

Go To

  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!: "Boom" is treated as Austin's catchphrase by those who imitate him, despite the fact that he never really says this.
  • California Doubling: The screenshots of the show's fictional outdoor shopping mall, the "Mall of Miami," actually feature the exceedingly popular Irvine Spectrum Center in Orange County, California.
  • Cast Incest: "Duos & Deception" has Dove Cameron and her then real-life boyfriend Ryan McCartan portray siblings. This is a case where the actors have already been dating before being cast as family members.
  • The Cast Showoff: The entire main cast are all singers, (yes, including Calum Worthy, which comes off as a surprise to many, as it is not something one would expect from his character).
  • Directed by Cast Member: Raini Rodriguez directed "Rejection & Rocket Ships."
  • Real-Life Relative: Raini Rodriguez’s brother Rico guest starred as Benny in “Burdens & Boynado”.
  • Recycled Script: Who else recognized the fact that the episode where Austin almost permanently loses his singing voice is a total rip off of a Hannah Montana episode aired not 5 years before? They even got one of the principle cast members of Star Trek: Voyager, in this case Robert Picardo, in HM's case, Tim Russ, as the Doctor of the episode. Though, at least this time they got the right actor for it, since Picardo portrayed the ship's holographic Doctor.
  • Romance on the Set: The actors portraying Austin's parents are married in real life.
  • Throw It In!: Like most scripted shows, occasionally they throw in an error, mistake or an unscripted adlib.
    • When Ally tries to crayon outside the lines of a coloring book she can't bring herself to do it. Austin grabs her hand and starts coloring in the book. He colored it so hard he broke the crayon. Laura breaks character (which isn't very obvious since Ally's personality matched Laura's pretty closely) saying that he broke the crayon before it ends with the Vanity Plate.
    • Ally and Austin dancing towards the end of Diners & Daters has an unscripted moment where Ally trips on the couch and falls down into a seated position on the couch. Austin's actor Ross Lynch stops his dancing and nearly breaks character. Before he can Laura stands back up saying it was 'part of the dance' and she keeps dancing. They threw it in.
  • Word of Gay: In 2020, actress Laura Marano (Ally Dawson) joked to a fan on Twitter that Austin Moon is bisexual and used to date Dez at some point, and that her character Ally is an LGBTQ ally (claiming that it was "literally in her name"), despite her becoming a couple with Austin in the series. Of course, this was only a joke, so this fact isn't officially confirmed.
  • Written by Cast Member: Calum Worthy wrote "Eggs & Extraterrestrials."
