Timeline / Fire Emblem

Go To

The many settings of the Fire Emblem series are not particularly conducive for placement in some Grand Unified Timeline, since individual games tend to take place on relatively isolated continents with no obvious connection to each other. As such, we have to operate under the assumption that each continent resides in its own pocket universe with a completely isolated timeline, unless otherwise stated.

Games with their own timeline subpages:

Jugdral, Archanea, and Valentia

These three continents are canonically part of the same (unnamed) world, with Valentia specifically located to the west of Archanea (the position of Jugdral relative to either of the two has never been narrowed down). As the original world envisioned by the series' creator Shouzou Kaga, it is also the most developed one, with six core games set in it, including all five released before Kaga's departure from Intelligent Systems.

  1. Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War (SNES, 1996) takes place on Jugdral centuries before Shadow Dragon. This continent is linked to the rest of the world lore-wise by Bishop Galle, who traveled from Jugdral to Archanea and back ca. 300 years prior.
  2. Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (SNES, 1999) takes place in the southeast of Jugdral during the 17-years Time Skip in the middle of Genealogy.
  3. BS Fire Emblem: Archanea War Chronicles (Satellaview, 1997) take place on Archanea just before and in-between the events of Shadow Dragon.
  4. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light (NES, 1990) and its remake Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (DS, 2008) take place on Archanea centuries after Genealogy.
  5. Fire Emblem Gaiden (NES, 1992) takes place on Valentia around the same time as Shadow Dragon. Its remake, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS, 2017), also contains an additional chapter where the protagonists sail to Archanea.
  6. Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (SNES, 1994) and its remake Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow (DS, 2010) take place a few years after Shadow Dragon.
  7. Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS, 2012) takes place thousands of years after Shadow Dragon on Archanea, now renamed "Ylisse", and Valentia, now known as "Valm".

Elibe

Elibe was the first continent introduced in the series since Kaga's departure and, as far as anyone can tell, is located in a world unrelated to that of the previous games. It serves as the setting for two titles: Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade (GBA, 2002) and its prequel, Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade (GBA, 2003), set two decades prior.

Tellius

Tellius likewise serves as the setting for two titles: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GameCube, 2005) and its sequel, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii, 2007), set two years after it. Tellius' general shape gave rise to speculation that it may actually be Archanea/Ylisse at some unknown point in time, but it has not been confirmed by canon.

Fódlan

Fódlan serves as the setting of two titles; Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Switch, 2019) and its spinoff, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (Switch, 2022), which is set in an alternate timeline. Like Elibe, it takes place in a world completely separate from the others. The timeline of Fódlan as a whole has its own page.

Standalone titles

Lastly, there are several Fire Emblem installments that do not share their continents/worlds with any others (yet):

  • Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (GBA, 2004) takes place on the continent of Magvel. While the game the continent itself is featured in falls under the Legendary Weapons category in Fire Emblem Cipher like the Elibe games, there is nothing connecting Magvel and Elibe, at least as far as anyone is concerned.
  • Fire Emblem Fates (3DS, 2015) takes place on an unnamed continent divided between the kingdoms of Hoshido and Nohr. The game does contain hints at a possible connection to Archanea/Ylisse, however.
  • Fire Emblem Engage (Switch, 2023) takes place on the continent of Elyos. It features a species of ring/bracelet-bound spirits called Emblems, which are usually based on characters of past games. Though the Emblems are canonically not the same characters as the ones they're based on, it is unclear if Elyos is a standalone continent.
