Times where someone went "Sure, Let's Go with That" in Anime and Manga series.

  • Played for Drama in Attack on Titan. After he and his team are rescued from the Beast Titan's attack on Castle Utgard by reinforcements and taken to Wall Rose, Reiner admits that's he's the Armored Titan and that Bertholdt is the Colossal Titan to Eren to try to convince Eren to come with them. However, Eren refuses to believe it, suggesting that Reiner is only saying that because he is exhausted and points out the Fridge Logic in what Reiner's telling him. At that time, Bertholdt, who is with the two of them, attempts to salvage the situation and latches onto the suggestion the moment Eren presents it. Reiner then proceeds to play along with a haunted look on his face. However, this attempt quickly falls apart as Reiner enters into a guilt-induced rambling due to having developed a split personality disorder, before removing his sling as steam emits from his now-rapidly healing arm, revealing that Reiner was telling the truth the whole time and that he is a titan shifter. It all goes downhill from there.
  • Bleach has this happen near the end of the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, after Hitsugaya uses Shikai Hyoketsu and visibly ages as a result. Renji doesn't recognize him, but Rukia says that he should be able to tell that it's Hitsugaya...'s older brother. Rather than explain it, Hitsugaya just goes along with this.
  • Code Geass:
    • Lelouch Lamperouge
      • When Lelouch encounters an opponent he can't fight (Nunnally), resulting in a 10-Minute Retirement:
Shirley: You just seem sort of down.
      Lelouch: No, I'm fine.
Rivalz: Can't sleep 'cause you're thinking about how much fun the trip will be?
Lelouch: You're correct. Yeah, I'm excited about it.
Shirley: Lulu, you're just like a little boy.
      • Arguably, Lelouch does this to Rolo: as Rolo is dying, he tells Lelouch that he knew Lelouch was lying about trying to kill him; Lelouch "admits" that Rolo is right to allow him a peaceful death. The alternate interpretation is that Lelouch actually did forgive Rolo at that point, and considered him a brother.
      • This also applies to how the other Black Knights view his relationship with C.C. While they assume she's his Dark Mistress she's in fact far from it, but he doesn't bother to correct them. C.C., on the other hand, tries to set the record straight with Tamaki, but he doesn't believe her.
  • The English dub of Crayon Shin-chan gives us this:
Shin: What's "exasjulate" [ejaculate] mean? Some type of lady face cream?
Hiro: Sure, let's go with that.
  • Subverted in Emma: A Victorian Romance: Adele does this to comfort and cover for Emma after a party. Emma gets drunk and lets her secret slip when she ends up crying over William. Adele gets it, but simply escorts Emma to her room with only a "Liquor can be overwhelming if you've never had it before."
  • Handsome Girl and Crossdressing Boy: When his sister Sayuri sees Iori's computer screen on a website selling women's clothing, she assumes he has a girlfriend and is buying something for her. He lets her believe it. It's not technically a lie — he does have a girlfriend, but the dresses are for him.
  • When Kirie meets Umaru in Himouto! Umaru-chan, Umaru is in her Super-Deformed "inside mode". Between that and her hamster hood, Kirie doesn't recognize her as Umaru and asks if she's Umaru's younger sister. Umaru, who maintains an image of The Ace outside of her house, runs with it and introduces herself as "Komaru."
  • At the end of the final battle in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency, a series of lucky coincidences, including a volcano erupting, sends Arc Villain Kars flying off of the Earth. Just before he reaches the event horizon, Kars asks Joseph Joestar if this was his plan, and Jojo plays along to troll him.
Kars: Did you plan this too, JoJo?! Tell me!
Joseph: Why are you even asking!? I set a trap and you walked right into it! All of this went down like clockwork! (thinking) I just got lucky, but thinking I outsmarted him will drive Kars nuts!
  • In K, when Kukuri finds Shiro in the gym storeroom, she assumes he was trying to get out of helping with preparations for the school festival. He gives this response... possibly to himself as well, since his memory has just been rewritten. As for what made that hole in the roof? He did.
  • Kaiju Girl Caramelise: During their date at Destinyland, Kuroe undergoes a Partial Transformation into her Kaiju form in front of Arata. Kuroe runs off and has a bit of a Heroic BSoD and a Then Let Me Be Evil moment after thinking that her secret had been exposed, but it turns out that Arata thought that she was cosplaying as a dinosaur-like Destinyland character. Kuroe decides to go along with his misconception.
  • The Kaitou Saint Tail manga has a prequel chapter explaining how Saint Tail started stealing Just Like Robin Hood: Meimi, dressed in her stage clothes and performing some stage magic, recovered the key of a confessional that a kid had stolen as part of a courage test, only for the school journal to publish a bad picture Asuka Jr. had taken of her (he was there by chance) and dub her a Phantom Thief, giving Seira the idea to do just that.
  • In the supplementary manga set before Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's, while Nanoha, Alisa, and Suzuka watched a tape sent by Fate, a girl from another world whom Nanoha befriended, Alisa asked Nanoha a question that threatened to crack the Masquerade wide open.
Alisa: What country is Fate from?
    Nanoha: Eh?
Suzuka: Testarossa...is that an Italian name?
Nanoha: Ah...oh yeah! Italian! She's Italian!
  • In March Comes in Like a Lion, Rei responds to the estranged Kawamoto father's claim that he has no business with "his" family by stating that he intends to marry Hina, shocking everyone present and causing Hina to pass out. After he is warded off, Akari and the sisters' aunt Misaki wonder how to react properly to Rei's absolutely serious statement and what would be best for Hina; however, when Hina awakens, she happily thanks Rei for being reliable in "tricking" her father, convinced that it was a ploy to ward the scumbag off. Akari and Misaki look at each other, silently nod, and collectively slap their hands over Rei's mouth before he could correct her misconception.
  • Negima! Magister Negi Magi has Evangeline doing this during her fight with Setsuna during the tournament. She decides that Setsuna is getting too soft because of her friendships, and tries to force her to decide between her sword and her happiness. Setsuna believes it's a Secret Test of Character and ends up Taking A Third Option. Afterward, this conversation happens:
Setsuna: The choices you gave me — it wasn't that I needed strength to defeat you, but what I did need to break through was to truly realize the power of my own will! That was the answer, wasn't it?!
    Eva: (injured) Nhn? Dunno...I s'ppose...
  • One Piece:
    • Luffy is the first man that most women of Amazon Lily have come across, because the island is forbidden for men. He also happens to be a Rubberman due to his Devil's Fruit ability. The women also do not know about Devil's Fruits due to the island's isolation from the world (and because the Boa sisters kept the knowledge hidden for their personal reasons). The curious women ask Luffy if all men's bodies stretch like his does. Luffy doesn't want to bother explaining what Devil's Fruits are, so he just agrees that all men's bodies do stretch like rubber.
    • In the anime version of the Fishman Island arc, Franky explains to Luffy that a shipwright named Den, who is Franky's master Tom's brother, is recoating the Thousand Sunny so it can survive the trip back to the surface. When Luffy misunderstands that Den is "a shipwright who's coating Franky's brother", Franky doesn't even try to argue and just rolls with it.
    • Later during the Wano arc, Denjiro commends Kin'emon for purposely misdirecting the potential traitor by telling him the meeting place in Yasuie's message was Tokage port, and not the wharf of Hato port. Kin'emon says that was his strategy all along, but thinks to himself "I got the message completely wrong".
    • After Sabo is incriminated for Cobra's murder, several countries become encouraged to revolt against the World Government and their own respective monarchies. While Sabo deeply laments the incident in question, he ultimately can't bring himself to tell the truth to the public since the lie is bringing good PR to the Revolutionary Army.
  • Otome no Iroha: When Iroha went to buy a bra and was caught by people who only met her after she was turned into a boy, they thought it was because she lost some bet. She gladly allowed them to think they were right.
  • Played With in Overlord (2012), where Ainz frequently finds himself going along with Demiurge's plans, because Demiurge believes that he's merely enacting Ainz's own (non-existent) grand schemes, and Ainz doesn't want to disappoint his subordinate by admitting that he's not the omniscient mastermind everyone else seem to think he is.
  • In the very first episode of Pokémon: The Original Series, when Pikachu refuses to get into its Pokeball despite multiple attempts on Ash's part, Delia assumes they're playing catch. Ash responds with an "Uh, sure."
  • In The Saintess Has A Showdown, the palace's inhabitants were shocked when their local hero was only able to summon a weak water elemental as her familiar. Then they concluded that said elemental must really be the rare, super-powerful Water Emperor, and Gong (who would rather die than admit to any inadequacy on her part) said nothing to refute them.
  • Waratte! Sotomura-san: A girl once asked Sotomura where she could buy Sarashi to bind her chest. When Sotomura asked why she's being asked that, the girl said she believes that's what Sotomura does. Sotomura decided to allow the girl to believe that.
