Como Dice el Dicho (As the Saying Goes) is a Mexican anthology series produced by Televisa, recreating stories and situations that resemble common proverbs from popular culture.

Como dice el dicho provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Abusive Offspring: Sam from "Quien a su hijo consiente..." cares way more about himself than about his mother, and often abuses and forces her to do all the chores. Even going as far as to hit her.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Soraya from "A río revuelto..." ends up being the object of derision and contempt after a pack of nudes allegedly from her was leaked.
  • An Aesop: There's always a proverb for each episode.
  • Attempted Rape: In "Quien a su hijo consiente..." (Who spoils their child...), Sam goes to Yasmin's house and tries to rape her after she rejected his advances enough for Sam to drop his "nice guy" attitude.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: The episode "No hay enemigo pequeño" has Nieves who is shown tormenting dogs regulary, including dousing them in lighter fluid and whipping out a match. She even goes as far as stabbing her mother's cat to death with a switchblade.
  • Catholic School Girls Rule: Invoked by Soraya in "A río revuelto..." in an effort to look for who sent the nudes and clean up her name.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Miguel, from "Amor con celos...", is this to Emilia. He is very hostile towards Joaquin for his friendship with her, thinking they are hooking up together. The two of them try to tell him they're just friends, but his blind jealousy has lead him not to listen to any of them. Even going as far as to kidnap her.
  • Domestic Abuse: A rare child-to-parent example is found in "Quien a su hijo consiente..." where an older Sam beats up his mother Laura for letting Yasmin leave their house on the orders of his father.
  • Entitled Bastard: Sam from "Quien a su hijo consiente..." never helps his tired mother (he even takes money from her), yet he has the gall to call her out for not doing her best to do these things.
    • Aníbal from "Ni tan bonita que admire..." expects sexual favors from Clarisa in exchange for helping Clarisa's daughter to become pretty.
  • Engineered Public Confession: In "A rio revuelto…", Soraya enters the porn trafficking ring for the last time in order to pay them for the money they lost because of her. But this time, she recorded them live with a phone and gave away her location to the police. The cops show up right before the crooks could even leave the building.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Sam is unable to comprehend why his girlfriend Yasmin would have concern for her parents worrying about her when she is proposed to stay with him.
  • Fat Bastard: Aníbal, the producer from "Ni tan bonita que admire, ni fea que espante".
  • Gift-Giving Gaffe: In "Qué importa el color del gato..." Álvaro receives a gift box at school that contained a dress and other female garments. It was from Irene after the lingerie incident.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: The reason Soraya was the victim of Slut-Shaming was because her best friend Lidia envied her for her looks. The fact that Soraya slept with Enrique (whom Lidia crushed on) and left him was the last straw that drove her to frame Soraya for the nudes. Thankfully Lidia confesses to the headmistress when she found out Soraya ended up in hands of a criminal porn agency, causing her to be expelled.
  • Mistaken for Gay: In the episode "Qué importa el color del gato...", Álvaro gets this treatment from his girlfriend Irene after she caught him wearing the lingerie he bought for her. When his dad finds out about the incident from his mother after she read Álvaro's suicide note, he expresses his desire to kill him for that.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: In "A río revuelto...", After finding out Soraya ended up in a criminal porn agency, her best friend Lidia confesses to the headmistress that she was the one who sent the nudes, not Soraya.
  • Slut-Shaming:
    • In "A Río Revuelto, Ganancia de Pescado", a girl named Soraya suffers this because of a "pack" of nudes allegedly sent by her.
    • In "Qué importa el color del gato..." Irene gets this treatment by Alba, Álvaro's sister.
  • Stage Mom: Clarisa from "Ni tan bonita que admire, ni tan fea que espante" was a potential model to advertise a makeup brand until the producer Aníbal told her she was a little more developed than the other models. She didn't take it too well, and she left. Years later, Clarisa lives her failed dream through her daughter Kenia since she perceives herself as ugly because of the incident.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Famous streamer "Dariplays" and her boyfriend Emanuel from the episode "No todo el monte es orégano" are based on the real-life streamer AriGameplays and her husband, Juan Guarnizo, respectively.
  • No Sympathy: In one episode, a basketball player is a constant Sleepy Head because of working overnight on a job to support himself and his family. His jerkish best friend and teammate's first assumption is that he is a slacker and begins to constantly scream at him about that without him a chance to explain.
  • Pushover Parents: Laura from "Quien a su hijo consiente..." spoiled her son Sam since childhood because all her previous pregnancies ended in miscarriages, making her feel bad that she'll never be a mother. Her husband Carlos and her sister warn her about spoiling him, but she doesn't listen in her misguided attempt to compensate. This all comes back to bite her when Sam beats her up for letting Yasmin go in the orders of his dad.
  • Spoiled Brat: The episode "Quien a su hijo consiente..." discusses the "Little Emperor Syndrome". A teenager named Sam has been so spoiled by his mother, he became a manipulative, egocentrical and abusive bastard.
  • The Dog Bites Back: A literal example can be found in "No hay enemigo pequeño..." where Nieves, a street girl who led a gang is devoured by the dogs she mistreated.
  • Too Unhappy to Be Hungry: Ariana becomes depressed fover being ignored by her friends, thinking she had ratted them out to the teachers for stealing a test, she even starts to refuse food. This led her to her death.
  • Trans Equals Gay: The episode "Quien no ama a sus parientes..." intends to touch on transgender issues, but it doesn't seem to grasp the difference between being a trans woman and being a gay man. Gabriela is a trans girl who wants to have a Quinceañera party, but the flashback sequence to her coming out to her father depicts her as saying that she's a gay boy and him responding homophobically, with the conflicts between her and former friends likewise being depicted as the friends being bigoted against gay people, with Gabriela telling them off for calling her homophobic slurs but not correcting them (or someone who steps in to try and defend her) when they call her male.
