SS Despair is a Tumblr/Skype Roleplay group using multiple blogs and skype groups to do interactions. Based on the game Dangan Ronpa, it features of group of super talented high school students trapped on a ship. There is one way to escape, to murder another student. If they succeed in not getting caught, they get to leave, but all the other students are executed.
SS Despair has now ended.
SS Despair contains examples of:
- Big Brother Is Watching: The camera’s everywhere, watching for any rule breaking as well as any murder.
- Body of the Week: Literally, due to the one-murder-a-week roleplay style.
- Bolivian Army Ending: The game ends with the ship exploding. It's left ambiguous whether the remaining four students managed to swim to safety or not, but they're presumed dead by everyone else.
- Shut Up, Hannibal!: Jacob repeatedly tried to shut up Monokuma during the first trial.
- Cruel and Unusual Death:
- Executions are always this way.
- The murder in the third case also counts as this. The murder didn’t stop with just gutting her, she also played with the crime scene and entrails.
- Death by Irony: All the executions up to this point are tailored to the murder’s talents.
- Driven to Suicide: Ai after the third case
- Everyone Is a Suspect: Case two, where there were no overly obvious clues.
- Exact Words:
- The third motive turns into this when Monobear reveals that Takano’s cancer was already cured.
- "Press [this button] and you won’t live on the ship anymore."
- Fanservice: Avoided, but Takano was very insistent that at least one of them strip during the second trial; preferably Kengo.
- Fission Mailed: Everytime a Bad End happens, time is reversed and this happens, either from the murderer’s own mouth, or from one of the mod characters.
- Foreshadowing: Takano mentions feeling sick rather often. She actually has terminal cancer. Her free time events were full of hints.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Clive really didn't take well to regaining his memories of orchestrating the whole murder game.
- Never Trust a Trailer: The trial trial has a different victim but the same murderer.
- Official Couple: Tango and Chocolate Pi before they sank.
- Real Life Writes the Plot: Jolene’s disappearance from the game can be explained as this.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Averted with Clive, who seems like a nice guy. You know, besides the whole mastermind thing. In other words, played straight.
- Ship Sinking:
- Thanks to the very literal threat of the ship sinking as the second motive, Chelsea and Ai as well as Orson and Jolene ended up sinking.
- The third trial sunk both Tango and Chocolate Pi, leaving only Kouki and Clive.
- Wake-Up Call Boss: The second trial is much more difficult than the first, showing the players how easy they had it the first time. However, the third trial is by far the easiest of the three.
- Warmup Boss: The first trial, due to Tohru’s inexperience.
