Tropes

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Demencia quickly grabs Flug from falling into a large batch of mind-control serum, then asks if he's ok. Then, she grabs him and gets him out of there before the heroes get them along with Heed.
  • The Cameo: A brainwashed Penumbra appears briefly. Also you can see Sunblast and Curie briefly before seeing hiding Demencia and 5.0.5 in bush.
  • Cerebus Call-Back: Dr. Flug's hatred towards Goldheart. It's Played for Laughs until this episode where it's become important for a plot. Miss Heed fell in love with Goldheart when she was studying in Black Hat's Academy and wanted his attention, so she stole a part of Flug's thesis about controlling emotions, became a "heroine", and broke Dr. Flug's heart. When she does it in the present, Flug remembered this and realized that she's using him for Goldheart again, freeing him from her Mind Control and became immune to it. Also Goldheart becomes A Greater-Scope Antagonist of the series.
  • Clothing Damage: After Miss Heed is defeated, her headset is broken, and her outfit is sopping wet. There's also a symbolic crack on the pink heart on her chest.
  • Darker and Edgier: The most serious episode so far. It has a minimum of Black Comedy, reveals a piece of Flug's past and establishes a new arc and Goldheart.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Miss Heed Instagram account's records implied she'd be a major villain in the series, but she's really a VillainOfTheWeek at the first season's mid-point and her introduction actually sets up Goldheart to be a chief antagonist.
  • Disney Villain Death: Subverted. After realizing that Flug was using her, Miss Heed pushes him off the catwalk above a tank of perfume; however, Demenica saves Flug and knocks Miss Heed into the tank. Miss Heed survives the fall, giving a Raised Hand of Survival before she crawls out of the tank, but when she discovers the other heroes and villains are on to her fraud and her powers no longer have any effect on anyone, she probably wishes that she had died.
  • Dye Hard: In-Universe, Miss Heed's bright pink hair isn't natural, as seen when she's sent to a mental asylum. After a while of not dyeing it, her real darker roots start poking through the remains of the pink.
  • Epunymous Title: "Heedeous" is a play on "hideous", and Miss Heed is the central focus of the episode.
  • Evil Is Petty: Miss Heed brainwashed many people, including many heroes and villains. Why? Because she wants attention and wants Goldheart to fall in love with her.
  • Fate Worse than Death: For Miss Heed, losing all of her followers and influence is this.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Miss Heed acts flirtatious but it's only to manipulate others.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The post-title card distortion flashes with a rotated version of what looks like a report on the stolen mind control compound used by Miss Heed.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Miss Heed, along with anyone under the effect of her mind control perfume have eyes that glow a bright pink, even in the dark.
  • Hypocrite: After Flug and Demencia expose her to her own followers, Miss Heed accuses Flug of using her, completely ignoring that she was using him to get to Goldheart.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Demencia calls Miss Heed insane for her attention cravings. Reminder for readers, Demencia is Ax-Crazy and Yandere towards Black Hat and anything related to a possible romance.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: At her core, Miss Heed craves the love and approval of others, and surrounds herself with brainwashed followers to fuel this desire, but Flug poignantly notes that Heed needs to learn to love herself first.
  • Imagine Spot: When hiding from Heed's fans, Demencia has a fantasy of her marrying Black Hat as thanks for saving Flug, motivating her to try and rescue Flug from Miss Heed's headquarters.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: At the heart of Miss Heed's character, she's a lonely woman with crippling self-esteem that copes by brainwashing others into adoring her. Her Sanity Slippage when they all turn on her shows that without the admiration of others, she's left a broken mess because her validation doesn't come from within.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After getting away with numerous acts of brainwashing scot-free and being lauded as a hero on her social media accounts, “The Heedeous Heart” ends with the brainwashed heroes and villains all snapping out of her control, Heed losing all of her followers and being exposed as the fraud that she really is, and getting sent away to a maximum security prison where she is slowly losing her mind.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Miss Heed's M.O. is using people by playing on their emotions for her own gain, so her being used by Flug, someone she manipulated and even stole from years ago, is probably the best example of poetic justice in the series thus far.
  • Madness Mantra: While in her cell, Miss Heed repeats "Love me. Follow me."
  • Meaningful Name: Miss Heed's perfume, Suivez Moi, is literally French for "follow me", befitting her brainwashing-esque powers and need for online followers.
  • Moral Myopia: Demencia hates when Flug hits her and thinks it's only funny when she is the one who beats him.
  • No-Sell: Miss Heed's mind control perfume fails to work if the target has no affection for her. Demencia immediately rejects it due to her affection for Black Hat being too strong, Flug snaps out of it when he finds out Miss Heed is only using him to reach Goldheart, as does everyone else when the see Heed kissing Flug on her stream.
  • Pet the Dog: Demencia is normally mean to Flug but in this episode she goes out of her way to save him and sincerely asks him if he's well.
  • Room Full of Crazy: In her containment cell, Miss Heed has several hashtags and hearts scrawled on the floor and walls.
  • Running Gag: For this episode's demeaning summoning, Flug is dragged piece by piece to Black Hat's office, and reassembles himself out of sheer terror.
Black Hat: Don't fall to pieces, Doctor.
  • Sanity Slippage: After losing all her followers and getting sent to a maximum security prison, Miss Heed becomes a broken mess and desperately craving for any attention. She becomes Stupidly Evil when she tells Flug about Goldheart's plans and that he will come to punish him and (she wishes) save her after a promise of help from Flug (who used her to learn Goldheart's plan) after she tries to flirt with him.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: Demencia and 5.0.5. were Demoted to Extra in this episode and completely absent when Flug talks with Miss Heed in maximum security prison.
  • Shout-Out: After Miss Heed tried to push Flug into vat of chemicals, Demencia saves him and push Miss Heed herself. It's like a certain Clown Prince of Crime.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike:
    • Both Miss Heed and Demencia independently of each other answered Flug about his camera "Eh, don't you mean your phone?" Justified as they both are very modern women and commenting about how outdated Flug is.
    • Also Demencia and Heedcam have equal expressions when Heed kisses Flug. Justified too, as they both shocked that Miss Heed kissed Flug.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Inverted. Flug is technically the villain, and Heed is technically the hero, but Heed is, in this situation, the antagonist who violated Flug's trust to brainwash people. Nevertheless, Flug feels bad for her in the end and tries to offer her advice. In this case, it is the Villain Protagonist who feels pity for the Nominal Hero.
  • Tautological Templar: This is how Miss Heed justified stealing Dr. Flug's thesis and brainwashing people.
Miss Heed: "I'm a heroine, Fluggy. I don't steal stuff. Unless your heart counts."
  • Tragic Villain: For all her charisma and heroism, Miss Heed's just a deeply insecure person who uses social media as a coping mechanism for greater mental health issues. Even Flug, the one she manipulated and abused the most, just pities her in the end instead of outright hating her like everyone else.
  • Villain Has a Point: Before Flug leaves Miss Head in her prison cell, he tells her that she needs to learn to love herself.
  • Villain of the Week: The main threat is Miss Heed.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: In her official debut episode it is shown that, while she craves affection from everyone, the only person she truly loves back is Goldheart.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When Miss Heed realizes that she's lost her influence, she is reduced to a sobbing mess.
  • We Need a Distraction: Demencia pushes 5.0.5. out into the view of Miss Heed's brainwashed fans, causing them to fight over him and allowing her to sneak into Miss Heed's headquarters.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She and Dr. Flug were friends in their youth, and it's suggested that he did have feelings for her, but they have long since separated after Miss Heed stole his thesis for her powers. Despite everything that's happened, Miss Heed still refers to him as Kenny and Fluggy, while also kissing him on the lips instead of the cheek (the latter of which he requested). While Flug has every reason to hate her, he just pities her in the end and sincerely hopes that she gets the help she needs for her mental health issues.
  • Wham Episode: It is revealed Miss Heed and Flug have a history together. They went to high school together and were friends (with hints of romantic feelings for one another) before she stopped being a villain to go after Goldheart.
  • Wham Line: Uttered by Goldheart when he hears a recap of the episode's events:
Goldheart: Oh, Flug, what did you do?
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Miss Heed's real power is her ability to evaporate liquids. Near-useless to the point of nearly killing herself on its own, insanely useful when combined with Flug's emotion-manipulation pheromones.
  • Yandere: Miss Heed is obsessed with Goldheart and wants to use her powers to permanently make him love her.
