Recap / The Silverscale Arena S 2 E 12 The Monsterthat Challenged Hell

Go To

"Taking place after "Welcome to United Equestria", Mokushiroku continues on a wholly new path! A path that will lead him into the realm of Hell! He has plans for this place. Plans that’ll put him on a collision course with many familiar faces. The bigger question is, though, whom will be left standing after he once again unleashes his power? Can he be tamed by the kindness of a certain demon princess and just what did he do to earn the ire of I.M.P.? Come and find out as his saga continues!"

  • Affably Evil: Apart from the canon characters that display this trait, Mokushiroku leaves this sign behind after he creates his new fortress in Hell when I.M.P tries to break in.
Gone for judgement of this world. Will be back later. Trespassers are welcome to try and break in. I left sandwiches on the left side.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Millie and Sallie May’s parents become crystalized zombies.
  • Appropriated Appellation: Mokushiroku admits to Charlie that he never had a name, but he gladly took on his Red Baron like title with pride. It helps he was going to bring the apocalypse to Hell before he was talked down.
  • Ass Shove: Cherri Bomb threatens to shove up a bomb up Mokushiroku's ass after Angel flirts with the beast.
  • Atop a Mountain of Corpses: Moxxie stands on top of a mountain of zombies while firing two sniper rifles.
  • Babies Ever After: It’s heavily implied in the last chapter that Moxxie’s considering having a child with Millie.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Mokushiroku inadvertently saves Angel from what was likely going to be a very rough rape from Valentino. Happens again when Velvet attacks Angel with a hammer.
    • Just as Mokushiroku is going to execute Lucifer and Lilith, Charlie walks up to the creature and sings to it, which manages to get him to stop his rampage when he senses that her intentions are genuine.
  • Birds of a Feather: As they both realize, Mokushiroku and Charlie have a lot in common. They both struggle in a world filled with corruption, strive to change it (albeit, the monster's solution is much more violent), and they enjoy singing.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Mokushiroku kills one of Millie and Sallie’s brothers Cal with a crystalized bullet.
  • Bullet Catch: Mokushiroku catches one of Valentino’s bullets with his mouth.
  • Catch and Return: Mokushiroku does this with Cal’s bullet and Sallie May’s knife. Sallie May only receives a slash to her arm while Cal gets the bullet through his brain.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: Charlie’s plan to stop Mokushiroku from killing her dad? Singing a song to the monster, which allows Moku to sense that Charlie’s motives are genuine and stops his attack on Hell, as well as gives him an attack of remorse.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Every battle against Mokushiroku ends decisively in Moku's favor.
    • Curb Stomp Cushion: While Lucifer and Lilith do lose badly against Mokushiroku, they are the only characters up to this point that manage to land some good hits on him.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Mokushiroku manages to defeat and came very close to killing Lucifer and Lilith, the rulers of Hell itself!
  • Face Palm: Charlie does this slowly when the other members of the Hazbin Hotel make a betting pool on whether Mokushiroku or Lucifer and Lilith will win their fight.
  • Fantastic Racism: When Lilith notes that there’s less souls than last year, Lucifer says he’ll have a talk with those hillbillies when the tournament’s over, referring to Millie's family. Makes sense, given Imps are apparently at the lower caste of Hell.
  • Fictional Currency: When an impaled bouncer gets flung into a slot machine, it causes literal Monopoly money to come out of it. The guests are NOT amused when they find out.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: Blitzo slaps Moxxie while he's panicking over the undead army to get him to focus on their job.
  • Heel Realization: It's implied Charlie's song and speech to Mokushiroku made him realize he's going about his time in Hell all wrong, as he decides to join her in redeeming the souls there in his own way...while still harboring vengeful thoughts to the Space Ponies.
  • Hell: Mokushiroku travels to the Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss version of this location. He nearly goes full-on Knight Templar on the place before choosing a path similar to Charlie's.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Mokushiroku kills a bouncer by slamming his tail-crystal through his face.
    • Two of Millie and Sallie May’s siblings get killed by crystals impaling them.
  • I Regret Nothing: Lucifer shouts this to the undead angels who are scolding him for his actions.
  • Immediate Sequel: This takes place almost right after Mokushiroku flew into a rift in time/space.
  • Kick the Dog: Mokushiroku killing Millie and Sallie May's family because they were doing their job trying to catch the Lost Souls. Even after his Hazy-Feel Turn, he doesn't mention this moment.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Cal gets a crystalized bullet through his head while he’s complaining that Mokushiroku is cheating.
  • Killed Off for Real: Millie’s entire family except for Sallie May gets killed when Mokushiroku destroys their farm. At least until after the 21st Silverscale Arena that is.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone (Except for Lucifer and Alastor) in the colosseum has one when they see Mokushiroku's undead army. Especially over what was revived:
Moxxie: "Blitz! We need to retreat! He has Angels! FUCKING ANGELS!"
  • Mind Probe: Mokushiroku does this to Valentino to get information on where he is. One of the thoughts he gathers is a Lost Souls Tournament. Other times he does this, he's far more benign.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: During his Heel Realization, Mokushiroku is beside himself when he looks over Charlie's mind, finding her to be pure and making him reflect on what he had done up to that point.
What had he ACTUALLY done? Had he fixed anything? The Lost Souls were free, but everything else...all of this destruction...what did it solve? More violence? More fear? More of what Starfleet had done to the world he loved? So many questions that he wasn’t prepared for. Therefore, he just let out another roar, only it was deeper in pitch and somber in tone.
  • Neck Lift: Mokushiroku does this to Valentino so he can get information from the Overlord.
  • Noodle Incident: The last time Angel Dust was in one of Valentino’s orgies, he wound up in a dumpster.
  • Non-Indicative Name: The "Tournament" that Lucifer’s holding is more of a Battle Royale, with the name having been a typo and it stuck. Lucifer contemplates this for a brief moment.
  • Not So Above It All: Vaggie, one of the sternest members of the hotel, joins in on the betting pool the other members made on the outcome of Mokushiroku vs. Lucifer and Lilith.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: As usual, Mokushiroku dishes out some VICIOUS damage to those he deems corrupt. This is true of Lucifer, whom he plans to execute in front of everybody after he violently fights him and Lilith.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Alastor spends his time in the colosseum watching everyone fight for their lives against the undead army while he just enjoys the show.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Millie screams "I. WANT. HIS. HEAD." when the I.M.P. crew (minus Loona) and Sallie May are heading out to find Mokushiroku.
  • Put Them All Out of My Misery: Mokushiroku originally plans to do this to Equestria and Hell for their crimes, having grown hateful and resentful of both of their corruption. He's talked down from this by Charlie.
  • Rescue Sex: Angel CLEARLY intends to do this Mokushiroku, true to form. He's ignored on this front.
  • Right Behind Me: Mokushiroku makes himself known to Charlie during their second meeting by surprising her by speaking telepathically. Eventually, she turns around to see him crouched on the roof with her.
  • Screw the Money, This Is Personal!: Blitz decides to go assassinate Mokushiroku for free after he killed one of his coworker's/her sister's entire family.
  • Sequel Hook: Once Mokushiroku leaves Hell, he decided to give the Prison Planet Conva a visit, fully showing that he's Reformed, but Not Tamed.
  • Ship Tease: A fair bit between Mokushiroku and Charlie.
  • Shout-Out: When Cherri Bomb throws a bomb at Mokushiroku but doesn’t hear an explosion, she has this to say:
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Charlie's way of solving Mokushiroku's rampage (by appealing to his empathy) is seen as foolish by everyone else, even AFTER it works. Vaggie goes ahead and says that her parents should have died due to them already ruining Hell as it was and she almost got herself killed for her idea.
  • Straw Nihilist: Mokushiroku gives a speech reeking of this to Charlie, though it's less of a villainous speech and more of a plea to ask her if there's ANYTHING worth saving about Hell or why she goes on despite the crap she gets. Her answer manages to make him the Anti-Nihilist for good.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Despite Millie’s family’s deaths and I.M.P.s involvement in the plot being negligible in this, it does cause all of I.M.P. to appear in a future Arena, with one of them even winning it. Time will tell if this goes any further.
  • Sole Survivor: Sallie May is the only member of Millie's family to survive Moku's attack on the farm.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Crossover: Despite being listed as a Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss/Godzilla/My Little Pony crossover, the world of Equestria is only brought up by Moku at the beginning shortly before he goes to Hell with none of the My Little Pony or Starfleet characters appearing. Those on the Helluva Boss side end up not affecting the plot at all, aside from some angst and a possible future confrontation.
  • Take That!: Anti-Vaxxers are stated to have increased Hell's population by a third.
  • Tranquil Fury: Upon hearing of her family’s death, Millie calmly asks a few questions, before slamming her axe down screaming that she wants Mokushiroku’s head.
  • Trash the Set: Every location that has a Mokushiroku fight gets destroyed in the process.
  • Tsundere: Husk tries to convince Charlie not to save her parents form Mokushiroku killing them by telling her they’re not sure what he wants. And it's not because he cares about her or anything.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Sallie May vomits after Mokushiroku leaves, being unable to process what just happened at the farm yet.
  • A World Half Full: Charlie's speech to Mokushiroku is that she KNOWS Hell is an utterly corrupt and hopeless shithole...but somebody has to give it hope. He's so touched by this that he cancels his plans to annihilate Hell, resulting in him having an epiphany.
  • Wham Line: When Sallie May barges into the I.M.P. building, looking all disheveled, Millie asks what happened. Sallie May’s response shakes everyone in the room (especially Millie):
Sallie May: "Our family… they’re all dead."
  • You Remind Me of X: After hearing Charlie's impassioned speech, Mokushiroku warmly comments that she reminds him of a past friend. It's quite obvious he's talking about the deceased Twilight Sparkle.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: The winner of Lucifer's Tournament would have won a huge batch of Lost Souls, had it not been for Mokushiroku's interference.
